Extract of sample "My Idea about the Ideal Society"

Ideal Society Society is the composition of people living together in an organized or ordered way where certain norms or laws, which have been agreed upon, rule them. The goal of any society, whether it exists in a socialist, capitalist, democratic or any other setup is to promote peace, happiness , harmony and a conducive atmosphere for growth for the group of people concerned. My idea about the ideal society is one in which all the people concerned are treated equally irrespective of their beliefs, political affiliations, gender, age or any other considerations. There should be laws set up so that these considerations can be adhered to at all times to avoid discrimination in whatever form it may arise. Many societies are discriminatory, and this has given rise to rebellion and upheaval since, when given a chance, man is selfish and discriminatory in nature. Many societies where proper guidelines are not put in place have exhibited tendencies where people have been discriminated against because of color, religion, creed and gender, depriving the victims of their right to enjoy life, as they ought to. Women in many nations of the world like India and the Middle East have been oppressed in areas such as education, watching sports, choosing careers and even travelling unaccompanied by a male. This does not match up to my idea of an ideal society, where one is prejudiced use of their gender. The caste system in India, for example, where somebody’s lineage is an indicator of what privileges they will enjoy in life is an issue worth review because it is very oppressive. Such an oppressive system should not exist in the 21st century but should be removed to give all a chance to progress in society. There are many people probably who have been prevented from making a mark in history due belonging to such societies that do not give them a chance to prove their worth. My idea of an ideal society is where all are treated equally irrespective of whatever considerations and where no one is given the opportunity to trample on the rights of others. It is worthy to note that the notion of an ideal society in Nations like the United States of America have, for example, after the declaration of independence, the vision was to build a nation in which all would be free and equal. It said as I quote in part that “all men are equal and they have been created by God with rights which should not be trampled upon. Among these issues are the right to life, liberty and the pursuit to what will make somebody happy. These ideals should not only exist on paper but should be enhanced on daily basis in my idea of an ideal society. An ideal society according to me is that in which there is justice for all. This area has been trampled upon where cases justice being denied or exercised in a discriminatory way have been observed. Cases where blacks and minorities in the United States of America have received heftier penalties for the same crimes with their white counterparts have been documented in many of the states. Arbitrary arrests and use of deadly force against blacks and minorities for suspicion of crime have also been documented, leaving their white counterparts free. The tendency that is based on color and heritage is not my idea of an ideal society in a nation that champions equality for all, and should be addressed to fit with modern times. It may even create a rebellious society instead of helping to eliminate crime, even creating animosity between blacks, minorities and whites because of this uneven application of the law. There is a case in point concerning drug policies that further drives home this unequal application of the law home. The sentence for users of crack cocaine is a hundred heavier than that of powder cocaine. It has been adduced that this is because the formulators of the law know that blacks and minority users prefer crack cocaine while white addicts prefer powder cocaine. Though both are equally bad crimes, there should be no discrimination based on race, hence, this is not my notion of an ideal society unless the inequalities are addressed to enhance equality to all. In the area of education, inequality has been evidenced by the segregation of blacks and minorities to schools that are racially inferior or underfunded in the US; even though these said, groups are full citizens of the nation. This has resulted in educational underdevelopment of the blacks and minorities, though as can be seen the same groups have produced very great scholars when they have gotten the same chance with their counterparts. An ideal society is one in which equal educational opportunities are accorded to all, irrespective of racial affiliation. Shutting out certain people is even denying society the benefits that could accrue from the input of these groups since God has endowed people with differently. The laws exist on paper in many nations, but I would advocate for the practice of the same if we were to create a cohesive society or societies. Corruption is also an aspect that could destroy my idea of an ideal society. This is because those that practice it and especially leaders in African and underdeveloped countries, do it at the expense of poor masses where a few greedy individuals use what would be used to alleviate the problems of these nations. Many nations would be much better if the goodwill to create ideal societies existed. Society exists for the growth and fulfillment of its citizens. If there was no society, but a scenario existed where everyone did as they wished, it would be very chaotic. My government system for my ideal society is democratic, which is defined as "the government of the people, by the people and for the people." If there is goodwill, this type of government fits well with my idea of ideal society where all participate and are equal. Families are an integral part of my ideal society because, they are the pillars of a strong society, and it is true as the saying goes that charity begins at home. The traditional family setup, which comprises father, mother and children, continues to be the major one even though other setups like single parenthood and others continue to evolve. My ideal society is one in which good family values will trickle down to the society. Many problems in society like drug abuse, violence related cases and etcetera are a direct result of the breakage of family values that trickle down to society. Taxation and the proper utilization of the same is very crucial to an ideal society so as to aid in the day to day running of the same. Cases of tax evasion should be avoided in an ideal society as well as the proper accountability and utilization of the taxes should be done. This will enhance the proper provision of services to the society, where members will feel obliged to promptly pay their taxes as they witness their proper utilization. I also believe that my ideal society must have religion as one of its pillars. This is because many people believe that religion is a very essential part of a person’s life, even those who are not very religious. Many laws in the world also have their origin from religious considerations. It is also possible for people to benefit very much from collective religious beliefs since they bind them together. Religion thus is very important in society’s regulation of behavior. There will be penalties for those who do not contribute to the system, just like in many parts of the world. Tax evaders will be penalized and denied services to dissuade them. Those who for reasons of physical or mental inability will be exempted but this will be properly verified. Those who simply will not cooperate and be part of the system will be dealt with according to the law, which may include imprisonment or attachment of property. I have a penal system that deals with those who break laws because, to exercise fairness, all people in society must be dealt with equally by a set of rules applicable to all. Read More
