The article discusses the various cultural, political and economic trends that have taken place in Asian nations and which make these nations to be integrated hence leading to the development of regional consciousness (Kurlantzick, J. 2010, 24). The article however shows that other trends in Asia have led to the start of nationalistic sentiments in the area such as the dimming of combined memories concerning the risks and charges on national disagreements, the rise of fresh generation of political leaders, rise in competition for natural resources and increase in regional competition. This article also shows the negotiation between China and Taiwan which is considered a renegade province. Several agreements were signed to open transportation between Taiwan and China which would be used to tighten commercial and cultural links that had started uniting big towns such as Shanghai and Taipei. Chen, the chief negotiator in China received a warm welcome in most of the areas he visited. However, this chief negotiator was ringed by angry protesters in a hotel he had gone for dinner. The warm welcome and the ringing China’s chief negotiator depicts a transformation that was taking place across most of the Asian nations. In addition, this article shows that Asian region was going through a new schizophrenia which depicts a variety of strategic changes that most frequently seem incongruous and could possibly prove disastrous. Moreover, many cultural, political and economic trends show that the Asian nations have become more integrated to the extent of growing a regional consciousness. This article also shows that opinion leaders in Asia such as business executives, cultural elites and top foreign rule thinkers and other senior diplomats have accepted the process of regional integration. The article also reveals that Asia has began to create a true regional institutions and countries have started cooperating in more sensitive issues such as environmental change, sharing of knowledge and across-the country spread on contagious diseases (Kurlantzick, J. 2010, 27). It is also made clear in this article that despite the use of patriotism for positive and proactive purposes, a destructive type of patriotism has been adopted by most of the young Asians. This twist of nationalism has contributed to various accidents Asian. According to this article, the rising schizophrenia in Asia has important implications for the Asian continent and its environs. It is possible to set the stage for Asia in order to come up with more European amalgamation local institutions. This is achieved when the integrationists gain victory over the augment of troublesome and patriotic sentiments. This could result to conflicts in Asia such as the war between France and German. This treaty pledges that the members of the treaty must maintain peace in the area. The US policy has helped to encourage the pernicious strains of nationalists in the South East Asia. In addition, it has also tried to revitalize security relations with South East Asia. South East Asia has witnessed great economic growth and integration in the previous years. Regional integration will help to broaden the growing Asian middle class. In addition, the countries in South East Asia have also begun to witness middle-class migration as well. Average people in Asia are also adopting increasingly similar views on significant economic, political and cultural values which will be essential in building future region-wide institutions. Contemporary social values in South East Asia support pluralism and individualism among people. Moreover, young people are now less attached to the traditional social values while they still place increasing emphasis on individual freedoms, equal political rights and the importance of civil society groups. Most of the people in the South East Asian nations believe that democracy is the best form of govern in the area. In this connection, the article has helped to show the culture, economic and political status of Asian nations. The article is a useful source for the study of contemporary South East Asia because it has shown most of the things that have taken place in the region. The article has discussed the importance of nationalism and integration of South East Asia with other countries. It has also shown the economic, political and social status of the South East Asian nations and what has been done to improve the economy of such nations. Moreover, the article shows that countries such as Taiwan and China and made negotiations to improve on their trade and this has helped to improve the economy of such nations (Middleton D. & Brown G. 2008.pp 67). In addition, it has also succeeded in revealing the importance of increased flows of communication in promoting regional awareness and networking in the region. This article has also shown that Asian people have adequate information to make quick judgments but they do not have an open-minded analysis of their area. However, this article has various weaknesses that lower its ability to show the contemporary issues in Asia. One of the weaknesses of this article is that it shows that integration may bring some problems in the region but it does not show how to handle disastrous circumstances that may come with integration of Asia with other nations. In addition, the article shows that there is lack of balance of in the aid of programs of Asia because most of US aid is used in military and security support and has not shown the measures taken to create balance in the Asian aid programs (Kurlantzick, J. 2010, 30). However, the weaknesses of this article are fewer than its strengths and this leaves it at a good position of showing the contemporary issues in Asia. The article should have elaborated on the contemporary issues that have taken place in Asia by showing the measures taken in order to solve the current economic, political and social issues. The author has made significant contribution to the study of contemporary South East Asia. This is because; the author has discussed contemporary issues in the region such as integration with other nations, economy, politics and social issues within the region.
