Evaluating the Effect of Attending a Private versus a Public in Regards To Employability Following Graduation Task Date 1. Introduction This research aims at reviewing the job markets for the purpose of ascertaining the current trends on the employability of students coming from private and public universities. It will also be tasked with the duty of determining which institutions prepare their students better for the job markets. This paper will also be responsible for their determining why students from private universities are preferred over students from public universities and vice versa. The research question that this paper will dwell on is, “What is the effect of attending a private university versus a public university in regards to employability following graduation?” Currently, the University educational level is the center for many organizations making recruitments through their departments of human resources (Knight & Yorke, 2003). According to the authors called Saliterer & Rondo-Brovetto, the major purpose of having University education is to promote the generation, storage and transmission of specialized information for the societies benefit. Employers are also currently in a dilemma as to which candidates are better performing in the workplaces. The research will be critical in helping future students who will be joining university to properly select the institutions that will propel them into more secure and permanent jobs. This is because there exists discriminations for students from certain institutions in the job market. Background Information Students from private universities are regarded as being more prestigious than the students from public universities. This is because their former institutions insist on building closer student-teacher relationships and provide a wider range of activities in their curriculums for their students to participate in (Bastiaens, 2009). However, students from public universities are also considerably favored since they provide higher quality services as they go through harder training curriculums. The research will be responsible for determining which type of universities has been preferred in the past and determine the current trends in the employment field (Hager & Holland, 2006). Definition of Terms Employability This refers to the ability of getting employment after a student completes his university education. Private Universities This refers to those universities that are owned by individuals or private organizations. Public Universities They are the universities that are owned and funded by the state. The target audience for the analytical report will be the administrations of the two types of universities located in the country. It will also be beneficial for the employers in the market because it will help in highlighting the types of training they undergo along with their relevance to the job market. 2. Methodology This section is responsible for describing the origin of my sources, the methods used in collecting and organizing the data that I will manage to collect. I intend to use primary methods of data collection which will mainly involve interviewing managers from various organizations on their preferences. The data obtained from the interviews will not be biased because it will be collected from different organizations located in distant places and found in different industries. I also intend to pay several visits to different private and public universities. This will be done for the purpose of getting the available records on the students who have managed to obtain employment since they graduated. The records obtained from the university managements and the various departments interviewed will then be analyzed to determine the current trends in the job place. Newsletters from universities and other companies will be my best source of information since they provide finer details of the groups of people being interviewed. The previous literature explored and the sources listed down in the bibliography will provide me with greater insights into the topic. The different information obtained from the studies on private along with public universities will first of all be grouped according to their respective categories. The information will then be discussed separately and comparisons made between the graduates from the two institutions. This information will then be relayed in my analytical reports for the purposes of coming up with conclusions along with recommendations for the issue at hand. The information achieved through interview and newsletters will be trustworthy and credible. I will make the assumption that all the information contained in the newsletters is all factual. The evaluation methods applicable will be formative and summative methods. The formative methods will be utilized when the project is about to begin, during its development, implementation and after its completion. They will be used for the purposes of understanding the urge of having the research, proving the need for change. On the other hand, the summative methods of evaluation will be used during the research’s implementation and after its completion. The summative evaluations will be carried out to determine whether the research’s goals have been achieved, whether any unintended costs were incurred and what can be improved on the research. The costs involved in carrying out the research will include costs of transport, stationary and other miscellaneous expenses. The following list displays the items required along with their total costs (Hager & Holland, 2006). Transport Expenses 700$ Stationary Costs 250$ Miscellaneous costs 200$ TOTAL COST 1150$ 3.0 Qualifications. I am currently a Masters student at a public university located in the United States of America pursuing a degree in a business related discipline. I had previously enrolled for an undergraduate degree in a private also located within the country and have also been in the job market for a period of three years. I have a keen interest in furthering my education to a doctorate level and eventually becoming a lecturer at one of the local universities in my country. This types of skill will be invaluable for my task of carrying out the research, making conclusions along with recommendations for the issue at hand. 4.0 Plan My research question for the paper will be, “What is the effect of attending a private university versus a public university in regards to employability following graduation?” I.
