Reflection paper The best time to get married The best time to marry has been an issue that has presented different reactions from people because it varies depending on people’s culture thus, the best time to get married is not constant according to societies of the world. This is due to the fact that some communities will issue appropriate time for marriage while for other communities; the matter of best time for marriage is irrelevant. This paper has vividly explored that the difference in meaning among societies shows that there is no absolute age for marriage. The paper covers well the issue on the best time for marriage but at the end fails to explain why different communities have varied opinions concerning the best time to get marriage. In addition, it is significant to note that daily life is moving fast which has motivated young people to get married t an early age but this has not been working considering that divorce rate is very high among those people who married at an earlier age. For instance, it is indicated that early adult marriages have witnessed a divorce rate of 75-85 % (Ross and Clarke-Stewart 59-61). Therefore, the paper reveals how divorce rate is on the rise because of the confusion among couples who are unable to determine the right time to get married since they end up divorcing. In addition, the paper indicates that those people who plan wisely for marriage consider appropriate time for getting married since the age at which people get married determines their happiness in life. Marrying at the right time or at certain has proved to reduce some negativity associated with marriage like divorce (Andersen 19). The paper did not explain why most people do not take into account the existence of right time for marriage instead it argues that people have to approach the issue of marriage with care which is contrary to why people will do not take the matter of appropriate age for marriage. It is significant to note that the paper has revealed that in order for marriages to last, the issue of age does not matter but instead what matters is how well the couple complements each other. Another important factor that describes successful marriages is the issue of finding a partner with desirable characters. Therefore, the of appropriate marriage age is still controversial but it is vital for the couple to consider the age of their partners before getting married which in this case, the right age should take into combination important life activities. The paper achieved its goal by stating that it is important for a person to be emotionally, physically and spiritually mature for them to be ready to get married (Andersen 19). In sum, marrying at the right time reduces chances of divorce and brings happiness in marriage. Thus, people should select partners they are compatible with since this will eventually result in comfortable marriages where they are ready to share all marriage responsibilities such as taking care of children. The difference between Western and Eastern styles of parenting Parenting styles differs across cultures of the world in that there is a difference in the way parents nurture their children in Western and Eastern cultures. In this paper, I will argue why I think that Western style of parenting is the most desirable than the Eastern style. Before, I look at the two parenting styles; I will have to look at different parenting styles that were developed by Diana Baumrind. According to Baumrind, there are four main parenting styles which include, permissive, neglectful, democratic and authoritarian. I think, most eastern parents tend to think that authoritarian parenting is the most favorable for their children. Due to this kind of parenting, children are forced to complete their tasks on time this subjects them to pressure which at the end makes children’s lives boring and thus, they eventually lose confidence in their lives (Balter 56). I learned that Eastern parenting styles do not allow children to question their parents since defying instructions and orders may lead to punishment. In addition, parents insult their children which demean children’s personality. Additionally, I came to realize that Eastern parents also like using permissive style of parenting in that they do anything for their children and do not let them discover for themselves. This in turn makes these children vulnerable in the sense that when their desires are challenged, they are unable to complete some tasks. More so, due to permissive parenting, children develop antisocial behavior in that they tend to think that they are the owners of the world (Balter 56). According to my view, parent’s permissiveness to their children is not favorable for children to grow independent. On the other hand, the western style of parenting is less authoritative since children are allowed to enjoy their freedom. I came to learn that, those parents in western cultures who are permissive tend to be more lenient and allow their children to regulate themselves. As I reflect on western parents, I realized that these parents tend to avoid confrontation with their children as they prepare them to be independent human beings. The strength of this argument is the realization that Western parents give their children an opportunity to feel that learning is an activity that should be fun and that they lay less emphasis on academic success (Balter 56). In my opinion, I think the western style of parenting is more concerned with the personality and self esteem of their children since they oftenly reassure their children even if they fail in their activities. I learned that western parents acknowledge and vales their children this creates a strong bond between them and their children. The weakness of western style of parenting is that children grow up to be underachievers and weak since their parents do not push them to work hard in their activities. In sum, I think the paper achieved its aim by exploring how Eastern parenting makes children hate schools because of the pressure from parents to perform better while Western Parents children tend to love school because they are free to choose what they want. So, it is important for parents to know that good parenting is vital to successfully nurturing their children. People really need to go to college to learn In this contemporary world, most people from all walks of life, ethnic and cultural backgrounds want to go to college. This is despite the fact that some people do not succeed in being admitted to colleges but, it is true that students have at one time wanted to go to college. I came learn that some people do not value college education as they think that going to college is a waste of time and money and thus, opt to live without college education. What such people do not know is that college provides many opportunities from financial, technical to practical support which cannot be attained with any other means (Universitiesandcolleges.org). In my own opinion, I think that people should go to college so as to increase and improve their learning potentialities while at the same time opening up many opportunities for them. Education is very vital in that it increases the dependency of people on work by increasing their self confidence in regard to their skills and experience. For example, I noticed that those people who have strong educational background are more dependent on their job than those who are not. I learned that the advantage of going to college is that one is able to acquire new skills which in turn assist them in getting a well paid job. The paper fails to unravel the other side of education whereby after graduating from college, graduates gets few options out there for them. This has led some people argue that those people who have college education lack equal experience gained in real world. I learned that even those people who were college drop outs such as Bill Gates, they still stress on the importance of good education. This is because there are some ideas that a student comes across during his time in college that cannot be offered to him in the real world. Additionally, it is vital to note that college education assists students in exploring their talents and careers (Universitiesandcolleges.org). In my own view, people who lack college education are mostly likely to be confused and undecided about their career choices. People should not base on college names as good places to disseminate ideas; instead they have to focus on the students’ personality. The paper well explores the need to focus on the individual’s personality because it has been proved that some colleges and campus are not friendly to students which at the end may not end up helping students. More so, conventional mode of learning should not be neglected since they still bear some ideal features such as peer networking and social grooming (Brewer 74). Summarily, a person can gain much skills and knowledge about certain subject while in college or at home which in turn help a person in identifying his strengths and pursuing the right career path. People Do Not Really Need to Go to College There are different views regarding the need to get higher education. It is obvious that many people tend to think that college education is a condition for a successful career and a way of getting well earning job. In my opinion, I think that some people should not go to college or campus to attain higher education. I realized that 57% of the U.S citizens perceive that college education offers value and knowledge to students while majority of parents had a conviction that their children were expected to pursue higher education. I think going to college does not necessarily mean being there to learn but colleges opens up opportunities to socialize with peers and also it provides a strong certification via a degree (Universitiesandcolleges.org). Despite the fact that the value of education is very important, given the disparities in earnings between those who have a bachelor’s degree and those who do not, the individual rate of return on investment in higher education is high to justify the cost of higher education. More so, acquiring college degree comes with other benefits such as increased capability to produce higher savings, increased abilities in decision making, greater opportunities and more chances for professional and personal mobility (Brewer 44). Apart from no-monetary benefits of education, I came to learn that there are several benefits that come from attaining degree which includes, developed cognitive abilities, showing consistent behavior and being more democratic while passing these characters to the next generation. Also, reflecting on people’s lifestyles, I came to realize that college or university graduates were more informed and sensitive to maintaining good lifestyle thus sustaining their good health. On the other hand, I came to notice that there are those people who are against going to college arguing that there are some things that need to be taken care of. For instance, the need to support one family, high costs of education making it unaffordable and lastly desire for working and earning money which is important than pursuing college degree. . In conclusion, the need and desire of pursuing higher education depends on the students and that getting college degree does not fit all students. Therefore, those students who need technical skills o not really need to go to college to get a degree. Thus, I think people could therefore learn as much as one needs for the career path chosen from other sources of educational pursuit. Works Cited Andersen, Margaret and Taylor, Howard.
