According to studies carried out by responsive care givers, parenting practices change overtime. This suggests that, parenting practices applied by parents in 1920s and 1960s are different from those of today. As such, children of these different generations grew up in diverse parenting conditions which makes their views on different aspects of life such as education and dressing mode vary completely (Kotchick & Forehand, 2002). This paper will seek to list at least four parenting practices of three generations.

It will review these practices and discuss the similarities and differences between such parenting practices and explain the concept of cohort effects. Generation 1: Years children were raised (1940-1948) Generation 2: Years children were raised (1980-1988) Generation 3: Years children were raised (2008-present) Parenting practice 1: Education Children raised during Generation 1 underwent parental practices that involved harsh disciplining, continuous parental monitoring, learning through observation, and creation of responsibility awareness.

When it came to the issues of education, parents wanted to take their children to school as a basis of acquiring knowledge, but they were in some cases unable due to other traditional responsibilities (Kotchick & Forehand, 2002). . other end, parental practices particularly in mothers of this time emphasized much on breastfeeding for just a while and resolved to feed their children even before the stated exclusive breastfeeding period erupted (Llewellyn, 2010). Parenting practice 2: Extra Curriculum activities Parental practices of this generation were a bit relaxed thus children learnt through formal education and parents tried as much as they could to institute a sense of responsibility among this generation.

Nevertheless, it is crucial to note that most of the parental practices carried out during this generation were inherited from the previous although there were some notable improvements (Kotchick & Forehand, 2002). Parents regarded the aspect of education as imperative in the growth of a child and specifically in the future. Thus, they incorporated more advanced ways of educating their children. In this case, there were more schools equipped with technologically sound equipment (Kim, 2007). Apart from intensified measures of educating children raised during generation 2, there was also improvement in regard for extra curriculum activities.

In countries like America where sports is just like any other sort of employment with considerable pay, there came the upsurge of sport managers, sponsors, and talent developers (Chase-Lansdale, Kiernan, & Friedman, 2004). Parenting practice 3: Breastfeeding Agreeably, generation 3 otherwise known as the 21st century kids cares less about having children leave alone breastfeeding (Kim, 2007). With this generation, every facet of life has been changed as the research found out; education tops the list of parental practices followed by extra curricular activities then religious involvement.

Parents would like to see their children attend religious
