Suicide can be defined as one’s deliberate act of ending his or her life. It is becoming more common in the 21st century as more people are becoming involved in such an act, which some specialists refer to as a “natural response” to certain circumstances that affect people. Some major factors that have been identified as the major causes of suicide are failure to find love and affection, which are important aspects of life (Lam, 22). Denial can lead to depression. Loss of love is also another major factor, together with lack of achievement and success in one’s life in general or area of specialization (Jamison, 99).

Specialists have the view that most suicide cases can be prevented by what Murray called “an anodyne”-one who can understand the patient’s distresses and provide ways out of them (Dublin, 60). A patient’s reasons for suicide have to be understood and therapy that corresponds to their problems administered. In short, a therapist has to know where the patient hurts and find out how they can help. This means a wholesome understanding of the patient’s problems and the possible solutions the patient had considered but did not help.

From this point, the therapist can provide other solutions that the patient had not considered (Jamison, 87). When all these, and other possible avenues are considered, this increasing problem can be contained to the minimum, as those who contemplate the act are accorded due help so that they find joy in a life so full of problems, rather than focusing on the negative aspects that can be the driving force to suicide (Lam, 54).
