a. Aim of the Study – Human beings are social beings and there is a need to know if gratitude prompts people to help. There is also a need to understand if the effect of gratitude on prosocial behavior is different from other positive emotions and a positive mood. The study adds to previous research by focusing on gratitude’s effects on prosocial behavior different from other positive emotions. It also tries to find out the effect of gratitude on short- and long-term relationships.b. Literature reviewIII.

Method – The study will involve participants who will be divided into confederates and other subjects. Confederates will be instructed to act kindly toward the other participants. Then, participants will be asked by the confederates to return a favor. The above procedure will help assess the effect of gratitude on prosocial behavior. The dependent variable is the confederates while the independent variables are the other participants.IV. Study Onea. Method i. Participants - 105 people. 70 female and 35 males.

They will be randomly assigned to one of three emotion-induced conditions.ii. Procedure – Participants are divided into confederates and participants. They will perform experiment activities together, including hand-eye coordination exercises. Gratitude will be manipulated through amusement and neutrality.b. Manipulation of gratitudei. Amusement manipulation – Through a humorous video clip.ii. Neutral manipulation – Through dialogue between the confederate and the other participant.c. Manipulation check for the emotions – Through filling a questionnaire to assess their feelings towards their partner.d. Helping behavior – The confederate will ask the participant for a favor after helping the participant in the lab solve a technical problem.e. Anticipated results – Participants with gratitude are more grateful and more likely to help others than those in other positive moods such as amusement.
