The harmful event causing trauma includes the terrifying experience happened to dear ones or strangers or self in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. PTSD is normally and mainly associated with battle-scarred soldiers – and military combat. But any perceived unpredictable and uncontrollable, unusual drowning life experience like violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, (National Institute of Mental Health (2009) can trigger PTSD. This emotional illness can be very disabling, severe and refractory, causing mental agony and physical suffering for individuals.

PTSD remains at the forefront of poorly understood psychiatric disorders. Though in the past, PTSD contemplated not a serious health problem, the disease has always offered new challenges accompanying morbidity. The increasing number of population is getting exposed to unhealthy events like terrorist attacks, school shootings, or assaults, which are leading causes of rising in PTSD cases. The individuals suffering from this debilitating disorder have to fight against mental demons causing them to respond with intense fear, helplessness, or distress.

The reaction of a person to threatened situation varies significantly from person to person and can be detrimental to some traumatized individuals. Every individual is unique in his personality, beliefs, personal values, and prior experiences (especially of other traumatic events in their life). Therefore the duration of healing from PTSD differs (Atique, 2005). The PTSD has undergone many transformations over human history. It is important to review the factors which contribute to the development and sustenance of PTSD after traumatic stimuli.

In the past century, it has been known that the psychological trauma was vital for psychiatric disturbances.
