REVELATION The literal meaning of revelation as we all know is “to bring into light something that is hidden or toreveal the mystery”. Revelation is supernatural or spiritual kind of knowledge to be exposed to human mind in an extraordinary way, which the human brain must have never known or discover. Revelation in Christianity is the truth communicated by God to the world, by the ways which are not believed to be the normal path of nature. According to the Christian’s belief, the revelation that God gifted the mankind, consist of facts that were otherwise inaccessible for the human mind. These mysteries although have been revealed by God in the bible, but still the human mind is too small to penetrate the truth inside it. These scriptures have not yet fully understood, as they consist of things which are beyond the ordinary work of the environment. Revelation is considered God’s direct words for mankind, through the Bible. Although it was prophesized by his chosen prophet, but this does not decrease the essence of revelation, it is God’s direct speech. Revelation according to Christian’s faith is “the truth which has come down from heaven”. God wanted to show His believers, His almighty power. He wants to reveal to the mankind the scripture of the thing which man himself may not be able to discover. The bible itself says that God wanted to show us things that are distinguished from all what we have discovered yet. It says: “For I know the plan I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plan to give you hope and a future.” (JEREMIAH 29:11) REVELATION IN THE BIBLE The inspiration was bestowed by God on His Chosen One, to writes all what God wants the world to know. God illuminated the mind of the writer and showed him all the events which will be occurring and are important for the believers to know. All these revelations given by God, was written down and is present in the Bible as its last book. Revelation the last book of the Holy Bible was written down by John the Apostle. He wrote the book in the last years of his life. God showed him vision, the vision of the spiritual world. God revealed the scriptures of the heaven to him. In the Book of revelation he wrote everything God illustrated him and the secrets of the mighty world that were exposed to him. STUDY OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION BY THE CHRISTIAN THEOLOGIANS Christianity is a one of the major religions of the world. It does not need the support of the theologians to study the God himself, but there is a need of the theologian to study the complicated scriptures revealed by God. God wants us to known the hidden meaning of the scripture. It is said in the bible, “the Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” (2 CHRONICLE 15:2) With the day to day discovery of new concepts of The Book of Revelation, the theologians have difference of opinion, about the concepts. Some critics have often tried to attack the whole concept of Revelation in Christianity. Some have down valued the notion of the biological revelation and have shown a great belief in the Catholic concept of Revelation. Recently the theologians have tried to merge the concept of Revelation to ecology. (The idea of revelation in Christian faith and thought) Edgar Cayce studied the book of revelation in details. The main focus of his study was to understand the hidden meaning of the symbolization in the Book of Revelation. He gave a lot of basic information about the symbolization used in the book. (williams) Cayce described three levels of consciousness that a man beholds: Consciousness (the personality) Sub consciousness (the soul) Super sub consciousness (the spirit) There are many names given to the super sub conscious mind by different religions and societies. Some of them are the Holy Spirit and the Christ consciousness in Christianity, the Buddha consciousness in Buddhism, Universal mind etc. Cayce says that as we all know that Jesus Christ came to this earth as a normal Human being. He came to save the humanity from sin and to give them a path described by God himself. So that the one that follows the Christ’s way and the path which has been prescribed by God Himself, will get the eternal life. God want us to be like Jesus Christ. It’s the only way through which God’s kingdom will come to this earth and that is what The Book of Revelation is all about. Many theologians do not belief in the concept of revelation in Bible because of the naturalism of today’s world. Gerald F Downing is one of them. He says that biblical idea of revelation does not implied to the today’s world because it lasts back in the era after the Enlightenment.(Jr.) He also adds that because the new idea of revelation does not match which the biblical idea and also to the era after the Enlightenment, therefore it should be left behind. He also says that the revelation is a vast subject. He says that the Biblical revelation cannot be applied to the today’s advanced world. He adds that the knowledge of God can only come on the day when He will show Himself to us. Downing findings raised various question in the mind of his the readers but there were many critics who gave the answer to Downing’s article. Avery Dulles pointed at Downing saying that if revelation has not occurred, then what make us obey One God with all the power in His hand? He said that how can we stop believing on God, who came to this earth as our Savior and the whole humanity from sin? Colin Gunton was also among those who criticized Downing theory.
