The way a society views the poor people in society also affects their behavior. Some of the rich people in society look down upon the poor people. They end up mistreating poor people because they have financial might. Rich people offer poor people jobs and pay them peanuts. This ensures that poor people will always work for them, and the cycle of poverty continues (Giddens 156). The money they earn is barely enough to pay for their basic needs and as such, they cannot save money to invest and be able to overcome the cycle of poverty.

On the other hand, the elite people in society have control over a number of things. They decide on the places they would want to live, the type of life they would want to live, the type of schools they would want their children to go to and the places they would want to work. Such people are filthy rich, drive posh cars and can keep up with the current fashion trends. They also live in very posh neighborhoods and usually have people who work for them. They can decide when to hire and when to fire depending on the output of their employees.

The elite people also have things that they do not have control over. They can’t force people to work for them. They also cannot be able to control some natural processes like aging, although they may try to hide it. They also don’t have political power and also don’t have any power over the government and the decisions it makes. There are always forces in society that determine the way people live. Some of these forces are usually beyond the reach of many people. Money is one of those factors that determine the types of lives that people live.

With money, people can decide the type of life they would want to live, the type of schools they would like their children to attend and the neighborhoods they would want to live.
