Conflict theory applies to stratification. It holds that inequality adversely affects society because it brings about a fixed system of losers and winners. In this case, the losers are the less privileged in society while the rich and powerful are the winners.

In America, the conflict theory of stratification fits as it is exhibited in the strata of race, gender, and class. In this case, other races except for the white from America are considered as the least in society. In terms of gender, females are regarded as an inferior or minority group. In this case, women are disregarded especially in elective and appointive positions in the government. Lastly, stratification according to class is demonstrated by dividing society into lower, middle, and higher classes. This is done according to the level of income and the standard of lifestyle for each family.

I think my family can be placed in the middle-class category. This is because, though we do not lack basic requirements like those in the lower class, we do not have access to luxurious goods and services like those enjoyed in the first class.
