Previous research indicates that the numbers of young people between 10 and 25 years old who have been legally accused of gun crime are 81%, while 90% of them are male. Out of the 81% of youth accused of gun crime, 78% of them are actually black. Some analysts believe that the vice is like cancer that is spreading in a vicious cycle-from the street-to our street to your street. It is, therefore, a social problem that needs to be addressed as soon as possible

In fact, the same statistics continue to indicate that London alone accounts for nearly 40% of all the gun and knife crimes committed in Britain every year and the trend continues. The department of home security through the government continues to inform the public that;

  • The use of guns is actually decreasing
  • Robberies committed using guns are decreasing
  • The number of serious injuries committed via guns has actually reduced

If the above statements are true at least according to the government, then what is being done to revere this inclination? It is such kinds of statistics that this dissertation will try to reach and reach a conclusion on what could be easily done to address the root causes of this problem.

Cressida Dick, the metropolitan police commander once argued that all the guns that are being used by the youth are only a replica of the real ones but equally dangerous. This is a near admission of the availability of the guns to the youth and more specifically the use of replica guns for ‘protection’.

There have been various classes of explanations for the causes, effects, and magnitude of gun crime among young black males in the U.K today. In this research, I examine the magnitude of gun crime today in the U.K and if it has actually been contained or not. In particular, I look into the causes of the increase in gun crime among young black males

In this study, all indications lead to the fact that young black males in the U.K today get involved in crime. Other indications also suggest that the young black males tend to involve themselves in gun crime because of certain factors that the government and the society have overlooked and they include; poverty, racism, inequality, lack of education, unemployment, cosmopolitization of villages, diversity, and immorality in they society.
