Concept Paper: Community, Change and Community Development Student’s Name Institutional Name Community Concept Identifying the community concept Community is referred to as small or large social unit of people and things acquiring common attributes such as values, norms, religion or even identity. This is a social unit working together to achieve or sharing common concerns. Moreover, community tends to share same resources, knowledge, and sense of certain geographical phenomena or virtual space depending on their communication platform (Honkalaskar, Sohoni, & Bhandarkar, 2017). Effective relationship constitutes human being and other non-human things sharing same resources, geological and geographical exposure from a common attributes. Therefore, the social ties help in defining community through sharing the same identity, practices, as well as social roles and institutions as family, government, humanity, occupation, and society, gives a greater outlook of common attributes or concept. Community Concept Application The social network and communities provide the general understanding of education, health, policies and international development framework structures. In education, community institute social facility whereby the member of the community can engage in learning and acquiring knowledge. Through learning, the community members tend to understand various approaches toward enhancing their surrounding and resources, and appreciating other non-human things (Welch & Panelli, 2007). Collective responsibility of a community is to ensure learning integrates communal aspects such as social and traditional values essential in enhancing the community unity. Therefore, education enlightens the members of the community on various aspects revolving traditional, economic and social life. Community strategies relating to public health issues tend to concentrate on improving the healthy livelihood of the people. Health is the key concept that attracts different health organizations and institutions to contribute to the well-being of the people. The health institutions and facilities are developed to uphold modern treatment with intention of controlling the health complications and diseases. Basing on the traditional life, there were various approaches used by the medicine men in addressing public health. Technology and education advancement has contributed to improvement of the modern health practitioners through improving on medicine and treatment technologies The community is governed by rules and regulations that are developed to ensure there is harmonious coexistence among the member. Authorities are responsible for developing appropriate policies that contributing toward achieving unity of the community. Policies are initiated to protect and prevent the interest of every member, environment as well as the resources (Wolch, Byrne, & Newell, 2014). The policies focus on controlling environmental conservation, resources distribution and law of unity among the human beings. In addition, Constitution is the guiding framework that ensures the establishment of series of rules and law governing the community. Therefore, the established institutions and bodies are entitled to ensure reinforcement of the rule of law. International development is achieved through globalization and ensuring every community is involved in technological and economic development. Association of different communities through business partnership has contributed to the international development. Technology has eased the mode of communication from different parts of a world. This made the global as one village whereby one can communicate and transact with another person regardless of the location in the world. Debates or critiques surrounding the community concept The community covers not only the human being, but also other non-human things such as wildlife, environment, and resources. Community covers all aspects of livelihood that contribute in enriching the human life. Wildlife and environmental conservation are essential to the human livelihood. They contribute in making life full and hence playing a major role through in resources protection, adding value to life and balance of ecosystems (Wolch, Byrne, & Newell, 2014). For example, environmental conservation prevents global warming that leads to maintaining climate changes. Furthermore, human beings are supposed to control resources to prevent depletion and hence leading to an imbalance in the ecosystem. Considering the community concept in the area of experience or workplace As a teacher in Saudi Arabia, I experienced community concept from a different dimensions. Advocating for the environmental protection and conservation during teaching programs has enabled me to realize the importance of non-human things and their positive contribution to human being livelihood. Furthermore, during the class hours, I have been in a position of interacting with students from different background and hence learning different social factors. This has helped me in appreciating their values and understanding on the communal life. Therefore, the community concept has played a major role in understanding the integration of different background to define the human being livelihood. Change concept Identifying of the changing concept Change is diversification of contexts or practices through changing nature and development of ideas leading to improvement. In reality, changes are experienced through knowledge concept whereby generation and testing of new ideas help in the provision of change concept (Krznaric, 2007). Theories such as evolutionary/ developmental, structuralist or functionalist and economic development articulates different aspects regarding development. Change Concept Application It is important to understand the need of change and in what manner the change should be effected. The reasons for changes are realized by the demand of the surrounding, development of new ideas and structural approach to the livelihood. In the education sector, changes are realized to cope up with the changing lifestyle, the demand for technological involvement in learning and the changing global business, communication, and standards. In addition, the education factor has to fit and strategize in the global position whereby the need of qualification meeting the standards developed in the education system. The changing concept in the health sector has been experienced on the basis of technological development and improvement in the medical care provider. The healthcare facilities are well equipped to meet the demand of medical attention to the public. The members of communities are advised to adopt new lifestyles that would ensure some conditions are prevented. Through public health, the health civic education is undertaken to achieve the changes required in improving the livelihood of people. Policy changes provide analysis of the changes required in meeting the new dimension experienced in community. The change of policies is developed with intention of compatibility with the changing environment and livelihood of the community. It is the mandate of the authority institutions to focus on essential changes being experienced and hence amending the law to fit the need of majority. The policies are improved to safeguard and accommodate the changes experienced. Environmental changes require the enactment of new policies that would ensure balanced coexistence of surrounding, wildlife, and community. International development has experienced changes in the economic and infrastructure. Economic and trading have taken new dimension whereby the globalization has opened new opportunities in the business. The changes have been experienced based on the online business operation regardless of the regional differences. Furthermore, the transportation by air, water or railway has improved ensuring the communication and connection from one region to another take shorter duration compared to a few decades ago. Therefore, changes in international capacity are observed through economic, trading, technology and infrastructure development and integrations. Debates or critiques surrounding the changing concept Change concept is derived from the progress realized in the community livelihood. From different aspects such as technology, social life, and cultural development, changes are defined by the track undertaken over a period of time. The development shows the milestone made by the community in enhancing the well-being of human and non-human existence (Honkalaskar, Sohoni, & Bhandarkar, 2017). The environmental changes are defined by the climatic changes and inconsistency and extreme weather conditions. In addition, migration of the wildlife is another change that is monitored to indicate the level of environmental degradation. Furthermore, pollution and depletion of resources are some of the negative attributes leading unbearable changes. Therefore, there are negative and positive changes experienced in the community and proper mitigation factors are supposed to be impacted to enhance balance in the ecosystem. Considering the concept in the area of experience or workplace In the workplace, I have experienced changes in different perspectives. This includes involvement of technology in learning whereby the students use computerized and programmed education curriculum. This shows that students depend more on technology in learning compared to a few years ago. Improvement in learning infrastructure has contributed in offering quality education. Therefore, this gives student wider view of the global learning and hence boosting their skills to integrate with the technological world. Community Development Concept Identify of the Community Development Concept Community development covers problems and needs experienced and encountered by members of community. Community development is based on recognizing and realizing the strengths and available assets for development. Communities are supposed to contribute to solving the challenges and problems they experience (Mannarini & Fedi, 2009). Through the integration of necessary intervention mechanism, the changes of development would be realized to enhance the proper and serene environment to live. Therefore, community development concept is the realization of essential changes to achieve positive progress through adopting communal strengths. Community Development Concept Application The education sector has experienced development through embracing essential changes that help in supporting learning activities. The changes in learning programs and curriculum are set to achieve the development and meeting standards and qualification of the global need. Stakeholders in the education sector have taken essential steps that work to improving the education. This is through infrastructural development, equipping students with essential skills and expanding the learning skills and quality to meet the changes needed. Health field has adopted mechanisms and frameworks to ensure the community set ground for quality healthcare. The healthcare facilities have adopted the changes required to achieve the needed technologies and equipment to improve in healthcare services delivery. In addition, medical facilities have equipped health practitioners with required skills and knowledge to meet the communities’ expectation. Public health has the initiative of educating members of communities of the importance of healthy living and improvement of lifestyle. This is aimed at prevention of lifestyle diseases that have affected many homesteads. The achievement of the community development through public health is directed through education to enhance healthy existence. Public health concentrates in sanitizing the community on the healthy mode of living in a serene environment and healthy eating to control health hazard spreading. Therefore, health concept through public health has contributed to enhancing the community living styles. Policy development helps in contributing to community development and realization of the changes. The legal development concept is determined through changes experienced and hence aligning policies to meet the demand. The improvement of the community means that policies regarding emerging issues are supposed to be constituted and respond to the need. The law on the extraction of resources is also essential to prevent over extraction and hence posing a hazard to the community. Therefore, policies change is required to ensure no vacuum within the legal field. The International development indicates the integration of the economic and trade changes have led to the development of changes in international context. Development of trading blocs has ensured the countries with common characteristic to come together and reinforce their trading power. Furthermore, technology and infrastructure have seen changes through development. Economic growth has enhanced the development of communities as they trade different resources to acquire wealth. This has seen the infrastructure development and improvement of human livelihood. Debates or critiques surrounding the community development concept Community development expresses the achievement, improvement, and growth of the economy, infrastructure, trade, health and social concepts. The members of community uses available resources and assets to contribute to their well-being. The existence of the improved infrastructure and trade provide a platform for the community to experience the changes (Welch & Panelli, 2007). In achieving community development, the members are supposed to be part of the change they want. This covers in the conservation of the environment, prevention of pollution, safeguarding the wildlife and enacting laws to prevent resources depletion among others. Considering the concept in the area of experience or workplace Being a teacher in Saudi Arabia, I have experienced the changes in the community in terms of development. In the workplace, I have realized the gradual but steady changes revolving the community integration and supportive of learning programs. The community has embraced in supporting the learning through contributing toward infrastructural development. In the rural setting, the students’ parents have contributed in developing up to standard the classrooms to ensure the well-being of their children.
