A fact that might open up discussion about the subject is that 1 out of every 10 Black men is either in prison or was once in jail (Palmer, 1999). The police have historically discriminated against Blacks. The Rodney King beating and subsequent innocent verdict against the unlawful police men that beat him led to the L.A. Riots of 1991.
Latinos are stereotyped as being sexually promiscuous. This stereotype might be true since population is growing at faster rate than the general U.S. population. Asians have been stereotypes as being smarter than most Americans. There is no empirical proof that Asian Americans are smarter than other Americans. Old workers have been stereotypes as working slower. This is a myth constructed based on a bias opinion. Psychiatric persons are discriminated and stereotypes as crazy people. When taking their medications most psychiatric patients can function normally in society. Obese people are faced discrimination as they are perceived as lazy and slow. This is a bias opinion that is not true.
Out of the six groups I selected three had a direct correlation with race: Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians. I selected these three groups because they are the three biggest minority groups in the United States. A lot of Hispanics face prejudice from the Border Patrols who harass legal U.S. citizens with the excuse they are looking for immigrants. Hispanics have not received the same opportunity to climb the corporate ladder to land executive managerial positions as Caucasians. Blacks have been historically discriminated by the police and justice department. Racial profiling is an unethical tactic used by the police in the United States. Asians have been discriminated and associated with criminal organizations that import arms and drugs from the Asia into the United States.
