Patriarchy, on the other hand, is a given society where men have greater power over women (Brooks and Hébert, pp. 297).
In today’s society, gender inequality exists as women have found themselves disadvantaged in many sectors of the economy. Men have taken a greater percentage of labor force participation and in the political world, they have been misrepresented. In US, though the country has realized more significant achievement in terms of gender inequality, women are still insubordinate in front of men of men. For instance, by the year 2014, the women wages was 81% that of men.
Gender stratification is men and women unequal access to prestige, power, and property basing on their sex. In the US, gender stratification exists in many sectors as evident in the film miss representation. In the employment sector, men continue to predominate as compared to women. In recent years, women have been entering the labor force in tremendous number. They have increasingly taken a leadership position in the management sector, and the pay gap between women and men has continued to decrease. Despite this achievement that signal significant changes in the female workforce participation, many disparities still exist between men and women. For instance, female earn less amount of money as compared to men for equal work done and they are also overrepresented in sectors that offer lower wages in the economy. Few women are also given leadership positions in companies as compared to men (Wermuth and Monges, pp. 63).
In the film, women are portrayed as highly sexualized creatures that are meant to evoke sexual feelings of fantasy shown in all aspects of the media. To get a public eye, it is required that a woman should be thin and beautiful as required by the society. The above characteristic makes the woman marketable and is a valuable character for her to succeed
