Apart from these problems and issues for poor people of a society, another thing that affects them is that they are typically marginalized from society and usually get little or no representation in politics and in other high level affairs (Shah, 2013). On the other hand, the wealthier a person is, more he/she will be likely to earn educational, political, and economic benefits. The problem here is that poverty not only affects the childhood of a person but also lingers into the future in most of the cases.

The child of a person who is not able to earn the basic necessities of life for his family is not likely to get standard education. Consequently, the future of that child will also remain under the shadow of poverty as there will be less employment opportunities for him/her because of lack of proper education. For example, in third world countries, the child of a peon is not likely to get proper education because of poverty. As a result, the child will also live in poverty in his/her future. Therefore, the statement of ‘poor children, poor adults’ seems to be true.

The dilemma is that poverty is childhood not only linger into future but also causes an increase in the overall rate of crimes in the society. The reason is that when a person does not get a job to earn a better living status, frustration and feelings of gate for the society occur in the mind of the person which leads to crimes and violence in the society. Let us now discuss some of the main causes of poverty. Causes of Poverty As Bartle (2012) states, “Poverty as a social problem is a deeply embedded wound that permeates every dimension of culture and society” (p. 1). Some of the main causes of poverty include: Parents cannot focus on the needs of children; Children do not get high quality education; Less employment opportunities for children because of inadequate education Overpopulation is one of the main causes of poverty.

When there will be a rapid increase in population, scarcity of resources will occur as a result which will cause poverty in the society. Similarly, inadequate education is also one of the major factors that cause poverty in a country. When parents will be poor, they will not be able to provide high quality education to their children which will result in increasing the rate of literacy in the society and will consequently lead to another generation of poor adults. Education is the main factor which changes the life of a person.

Without education, the number of job opportunities becomes less for a person which results in poverty and poor standard of life. In third world countries, this issue is even bigger because the governments of such countries do not have much money to spend on education. As a result, the cost of getting education increases making it impossible for many people to provide high quality education to their children. Moreover, corruption and unequal distribution of resources are also some of the main causes of poverty.

Unequal distribution of resources results in widening the gap between rich and poor people. “Due to undesirable distribution of income and wealth, poor population is unable to take part in economic activities to remove poverty” (Khan, 2011, p. 1).
