TOURISM IN JORDAN Name Course: Instructor: Institution: Date: Tourism in Jordan Introduction This WebQuest is designed for students in the tenth grade. Tourism is a very important part of the Jordan economy. Jordan is a beautiful place with myriad tourist attractions. There is a wide variety of tourist attraction sites in Jordan. Some are more popular than others. Each of these sites has a different aspect to it, and a different back story. This WebQuest is designed to introduce and explore tourism in Jordan. Enjoy this journey. To continue to your tasks, click on the Tasks link above. Tasks Task 1:- Individual work Students will each write an essay of about 300 words. The essay will include information detailing various aspects of tourism in Jordan, including major tourist attractions. These essays will be directed at tourists; foreigners in particular, who are interested in knowing more about Jordan. The students will then share their writing with the rest of the cl Task 2:- Group work Students will enter groups of three. Each group will cover a different aspect of tourism in Jordan, as will be allocated you by your teacher. In your groups, the various aspects will be divided into three subtopics and each students allocated one subtopic to handle. For example, the first group will focus on location, climate, history and culture by posting information and videos. The second group will focus on tourist cities in Jordan by posting pictures and videos. The third group will focus on traditional food by posting pictures including the popular restaurants and their locations. Another group may handle recreation spots in Jordan, complete with pictures and videos where necessary. Note: Make sure you understand the guidelines for evaluation before performing your tasks. The procedure for handling the tasks is outlined in the Process tab above. Process Each group will have three students. Each student may have to handle a specific tourist attraction site, depending on what your teacher has allocated your group. Step 1: Printed photographs Each student will take and print out photographs of the specific aspect he/ she is handling. Whether it is a matter of location or culture, the subject has to be supported with photographs. This will create a more comprehensive view of Jordan tourism for the tourists. Write your name on your photos, as well as the name of your group and your fellow group members. This may require the student to visit the site Step 2: Research on the specific aspect. After taking pictures of, say, the Jordan River, find more about it. You may use a broad range of sources for this. Sources used have to be cited and referenced in the final report. Digital sources used should be attached. You may also conduct your research on the ground, with statistics and personal accounts from the residents of Jordan as well as the local and foreign tourists. Step 3: Prepare a report on your allocated subject This will detail the information learned from the research you have conducted, along with evidence of the sources used. These could be historical accounts, statistics, personal accounts from others, and/ or your own personal account and experience of the said subject. Step 4: Group Report Each student will then compile his/ her individual work with those of his fellow group members. They will gather all the information into a comprehensive report on the subject. Photographic evidence will be required where necessary. There will be a bonus for videographic evidence attached. Step 5: Presentation The reports will be handed in online by the deadline as communicated to you by your teacher. Any late reports will be disqualified, unless special permission was given by the teacher beforehand. You might want to talk to your teacher in advance if there is an issue uprising. The report will be in form of a Microsoft Word document. You will also be required to present a printed hard copy of both the individual report and the group reports. Groups will also be presented to create stimulating and engaging slide shows for presentation in class. These will be expected as Microsoft Powerpoint presentations, with at least 10 slides each. Have a comprehensive individual report covering, in depth, the key aspects of the subject you were allocated 2. Have a comprehensive group report detailing the same 3. Have photographs attached, to authenticate your research 4. Have a compelling and interesting Power Point presentation 5. Understand the subject at hand, and be ready to tackle any questions that your classmates or teacher may have for you in the course of your presentation. 6. Answer the few questions given at the end of the chapter regarding your experience throughout your research tasks. Conclusion Congratulations! You have completed the Tourism in Jordan WebQuest. You have learned about various aspects of the Jordan tourism sector. You have also learned how big role tourism plays in the economy of Jordan. You discovered various tourist sites in Jordan. You have learned how to research and compile a report. You have also been able to work well with your group mates to create a beautiful and functional presentation of your research work. Teacher’s Page WebQuest Overview Tourism plays an important role, not only in earning revenue for countries, but also in an individual’s life. Travelling and touring allows us to see the world and experience life differently. This way, we are able to appreciate life in a way we haven’t before. Tourism has a deeper meaning for people, as it helps people find and connect with their true selves; as has been the case on many accounts. Tourism is more than an economic activity; it creates a bond that transcends the physical on so many levels. In Jordan, tourism earns a large percentage of the overall revenue for the country. Every year, millions of foreigners visit Jordan for a chance to tour and experience the scenery and the rich history the country has. For this reason, it is befitting that tourism in this country be given special consideration. It is especially important that students know the role on tourism in the Jordan economy. The students ought to be tuned in to their environment; and what better way to connect with the environment than to review tourism? Tourism also forms a basis for good international relations for the country. The flurry of tourists from other countries breeds international cooperation and creates stable business for Jordan on the international front. Furthermore, tourism inspires patriotism in the country’s citizens. Touring the country enables the citizens to experience their own rich culture and history. It also gives them the opportunity to interact with other citizens from different parts of their country. This helps them appreciate their diversity and the similarities. This fosters unity and friendly relations among the citizens of the country. Target Audience The WebQuest was created for students in the tenth grade. The language used is English, albeit simple English so it can be understood by students whose first language is not English. It can be accessed easily, with just the basic knowledge of how to use the internet; and is very easy to go through. Objectives The primary objective of this WebQuest was to teach students abiut tourism in Jordan. By the end of this WebQuest, students are expected to be able to answer simple questions regarding tourism in Jordan. They should also be well versed enough to be able to prepare a simple tour schedule for a hypothetical tour. It should also sharpen their oral presentation skills. This WebQuest, although designed to help students learn about tourism in Jordan, I hope that it has opened the students up to much more than just the tasks given. I hope it has bred in them wanderlust and that it has enabled them to see the world through different eyes; to experience the world on another level. The students should also be able to: 1. Use the internet as a source for simple tasks such as this WebQuest 2. Make an oral presentation 3. Prepare a Power Point presentation that highlights all the key aspects as required of them 4. Follow simple instructions as given in this WebQuest and by the teacher 5. Conduct intensive research on topics they may not know much about and come up with impressive finding and information 6. Prepare a comprehensive report on whatever topic they are given to research on Materials Required A camera: For taking the photographs required for the completion of this WebQuest Internet Connection and accessability A digital printer for the photographs Microsoft Word and Microsoft Power Point Applications for the completion of the reports and the presentations respectively Process The teacher will need to delegate the tasks to the groups in class. The teacher may also need to explain a few aspects of the students’ tasks to them in class. He or she will need to be readily available to the students for consultation and questions regarding their tasks in the course of the duration given for the completion of the WebQuest.
