? School: Topic: FILM SCRIPT Lecturer: Film Script Life as National Service Personnel At the very moment Apple picked the mail and so that she was going to serve as a teacher in one of the remotest villages in the country, she knew the end of her happiness had come. This is because she was someone who did not like teaching for some personal reasons. Apple had always complained to her father that she was not comfortable with the idea that a day was going to come for her to handle not just two or three children at a time but a class full of children. But her daddy and most members of her family who were also teachers really wanted Apple to try being a teacher for once. Her hopes were gone but her options were limited and so she had to prepare for her National Service to be a teacher. Her parents who did not want Apple to know that they were happy she was going to be part of the family profession after all for at least one year pretended to be sharing in her displeasure. They helped her relocate and before she realized, she had started teaching a class of 34 students in a very remote village. The whole condition of service was not appealing because she was without most of the luxuries she received from her lovely family back home. Sudden Invitation to Fly As a way of proving a point to Apple that she was surely going to succeed into become a very great teacher, her parents called her very often to encourage her and provide her with almost every other thing they thought would make her life a good one. But Apple was just refusing to adjust, given the fact that she was seeing herself as a round peg in a square hole. One Friday afternoon after her second break, she saw a Mercedes Benz car come to pack in the compound of her school. Readily, she identified the car as that of her head of department, back at the university. Apple was invited to the office of her headmistress and the news she was met with was the greatest shock she was yet to receive in her life. Her head of department informed her that he had been asked to bring one female girl from her department to undertake a Masters Level scholarship program as an international student in Cameroon, Africa and that she was the one he had spotted to go. Traveling abroad had always been the ambition of Apple, no matter where the opportunity was going to fall. But inwardly, what was going to be even more satisfying was the fact that she was going to leave the classroom. This did not even make her think of the fact that the departure was going to be as sudden as only 1 week away. 1 Week of Absolute Silence Within a very short time, all the necessary processes had gone through and Apple was set to leave her beloved parents for an entirely new continent, which was the African continent. The Master Program she was going to pursue was a delight for her but the experience of exploring the much talked about African continent was another area of motivation. To her dismay, Apple will arrive in Cameroon as a total stranger than she thought she was actually going to be. Apple suffered the disadvantage of technology that makes us no longer give meaning to the use of paper and pen. This is because upon reaching Cameroon, her phone got automatically locked for change in point of registration. Meanwhile, she did not have the phone numbers of any of her family members off head. Not even that of her newly found boyfriend back home could be recalled off head. As though it was going to be a problem she was going to overcome easily, for a whole week, she had not got someone around to unlock her phone for her. After two days of not having the means for her people to know her fate, desperation, anxiety and disappointment started setting in. by the time the first week was over and her phone was successfully unlocked, she had not seen anything like sleep, eating or learning. This is because her concentration was totally gone. Even though she had access to emails, she found her dad had not been checking his mails frequently. Lack of Adjustability After she had successfully reconnected with her family through phone call, it was time for Apple to concentrate on the course she had come to pursue. But adjustability was not going to be easy for her. This is because she found that the structure of the program was highly demanding and too much for her to contain. Generally, her Master degree was going to be delivered after only one year instead of two years. For this reason, she had to be in class by 7am and be engaged in lecturers till 4pm. Before 4pm, she was not allowed to use her phone and so the problem of communication breakage was not totally solved. What was worse, language and food became major problems for her because she was simply not adjusting to the French language used by most of the students. Even her roommate did not speak English even though there were some English students in her class. For most of the time therefore, Apple was left to be very quiet and when alone, cried. She was not being able to eat the African foods served and so she started losing weight quickly. Back home, her boyfriend did not understand any of these conditions and was kept accusing her of using her trip to breakup their relationship, which was otherwise a very beautiful and faultless one. The New Love That Came As Apple was going through all of these melancholies in a strange land where her enthusiasm to explore had turned into frustration because she was hardly permitted to go outside the school premise to have any encounter with the larger world, there was one male student who had spotted her so well. This male student was Derrick. Derrick had somewhat taken keen interest in the way Apple conducted herself and noticed that she was not a happy person. Being a person with so much soft heart for people who seemed troubled, Derrick gathered courage to approach Apple one day. In a very straight forward express of self, Derrick told Apple, “I am concerned about your situation ok?” Apple was shocked to hear this but thanked Derrick anyway. As a mission institution, the males and females lived apart and where hardly allowed to mingle after school. But once they came to class, they could talk a lot. Gradually, Apple was beginning to see some life in her life because Derrick was really giving her all the attention that her nagging boyfriend was taking from her. The week Apple received a breakup text message from her boyfriend was going to be the most devastating week in her life but readily, Derrick proposed and so there was a somewhat quick and easy transition. Separation of Love and Consequence The remaining four months of her stay in Africa was filled with some levels of joy for Apple, especially from the love she received from Derrick. This actually reflected in her grades because unlike what had begun, she started picking up in her performance very quickly. Soon, the program was ended and she had to say goodbye to her new found love with an assurance already given to her that the relationship was going to continue even after school. Right the moment Apple arrived home she started communicating with her love, Derrick. The fact that there was a family reunion was also another splendid moment in her life. The only scene she found quite difficult to handle was the fact that her former boyfriend was married to her best friend who actually had a hand in the two of them coming together before she left for Cameroon. One of those days, out of the frustration of that particular scene, she decided to call Derrick and ask if there was any way they could take their friendship to the next level of marriage so that she would relocate to Belgium, where Derrick hailed from. To the shock of her life, after the phone rang for a number of times, a lady came to pick up the phone, only to introduce herself as the wife of Derrick. “Wife?” she screamed to ask but the next moment she realized, she was at the hospital. The film ended with a scene that reveals that Apple was actually telling the story of her school life to her first born, who was getting ready to live for the same institution she went to have her Master’s program.
