ESSAY, DESIGNING MODERN WOMEN 1890-1928 Introduction Designing Modern Women, 1890-1990 at MoMA after the second World War This paper delves in the discussion of the various themes that are depicted from the critical analysis of certain images. It is important to highlight that the images presented portray given aspects in the society and those are the themes that are to e discussed in this paper. The paper therefore delves on the visual arts that are crafted. It is important to highlight the fact that these items that are discussed in the paper are designs of the ancient times that were just but modified. What is so important on modification and creativity is that these artifacts are made active through the careful selection and preservation thereby making the need so obvious for their preservation (Joan, 2011). It is also important to highlight that the paper will be very much exclusive to the male since it will envisage mush on the roles that the women played in the shaping of the world of creativity and to be in specific the arts in the society. Women were therefore very key persons in coming of the various designs that are of much beauty today. Under this, what comes out so clearly is that the modern designs that are in the 20th as well as the 21st centuries are due to the impact of the women’s involvement in the arts industry. These are the creativities that were enhanced and propagated by the women who took part in the creativity in the arts from the year 1890 to the year 1990. The chair came as a result of the exhibitions that were done by Elizabeth Mock and Sussane Tucker Wacker at MoMA. The chair also seems so expensive and high values that seem to be attached to it and this is therefore a reason that could have led to the high use of the chair by the several households in the current era (Joan, 2011). In the first image, it is important to highlight that in the first image, the image shows a chair. Looking at the chair, what comes out so clearly is that the chair looks to be a dinning chair that is used in the dining section of the house. The chair again based on the information that is provided in the image, the implication that is quite evident in the image is that the chair is a craft that was designed by women of Scotland. This is a musical art design was designed by the women. It is important to highlight that this kind of design has been in use by many households in the 20th and the 21st century (Joan, 2011). The behind the image is a creativity of the shape of the heart that epitomized the innocence as well as the children’s sweetness. This is presented in writing form that is framed. Another image is again a chair that seems to be designed as a seat for the king. It is important to highlight that this chair was designed into use in the tea room of the king this was between the years 1868 and the year 1928. This was the era that a side chair was developed and this was for use in the king’s tea room. This is where the king could spend much of his time for relaxation and even having some coffee, tea and even cocoa as well as the drinking of some drinks with some of his associates and affiliates. All the above show how Gera’s chair is used in different forms currently (Joan, 2011). It is therefore important to highlight the fact the chair has been into much adoption by many households and families in the current centuries as it is quite portable and can be used in several areas at different times of the day. It is also important to reiterate the fact that this chair seems less expensive but its modification and design makes it quite useful by many. The designs and the modifications that have been quite scenic and have been associated with the provision of certain aesthetic value to the various persons those are kind of fascinated and influenced by the seats (Joan, 2011). It is important to highlight the fact that this chair had a round and an oval part that could offer a place for resting the head. This could give one the comfort that is required for the effective relaxation of the mind and for the provision of the various first aid measures that could arise due to emergency situations in the place of living. This is another feature that is attached to the seat that makes it quite popular and highly used. It can be clearly seen that the chair was made of two materials, those were oak and fabrics that were well designed to meet the needs of human in different cases. This also led o the development of the G.J table that was as a result of the unity that was between men and women in the industry. Others that were shown by the Museum of arts were Elizabeth Mock and Rudolf Mock and also Ray Eames and Charles Eames Childs chair design whose design was more economical. They also designed a three legged chair in 1940. This was using the Kazam that they kept in their workshop to design various curves that they preferred for the crafts such as the Queen Anne Side Chair (Joan, 2011). Another important item as shown from the image is that there was also some form of creativity that was extended to the storage site of the materials. This was a design that was due to collaboration of Margerate E. Knight and Charles B. Stiwell as a result of their marriage in 1900. It can be clearly seen that the women tried to improve the facilities that were used in storage from the simple basic clothed sack-like materials. Going by the image, it can be seen that these materials for storage seemed to be made of sisal or even the manila strings for the storage. However, with the involvement of the women and their coming into the market to assist in their creation and the manufacture of these items, it can be clearly seen that these storage facilities were made better in a way that they seemed stronger that they were initially (Joan, 2011). The standardized bags and cupboard were quite strong and can prevent loss of resources and they are also more durable compared to the earlier ones that were made. It is therefore be noted that these grocery bags were very strong and that the cereals as well as the other vegetable materials could not be lost because of the new designs and modified bags that were brought in by the women involvement in the arts. This is also another case where the women involvement seemed more significant and beneficial in the arts industry. The major point of difference that was in the bags was in the bottom of the bags. The flat bottoms that were weak in the old designs were improved and made stronger in the new bags that were developed (Joan, 2011). Another one is the Grete Jalk (G.J) chair that was later developed and designed by a woman who worked under the employment of Jalk. It is important to highlight that this design was done in 2009 after the woman had settled and established herself fully businesswise in her own office. It is also important to highlight that the woman had done studies at the Copenhagen Royal Academy of Fine Arts where she graduated. This was after the courses of arts and craft were introduced after World War 2. The chair was made folding of teak plywood and was called Lounge chair that is compared to child’s chair by Ray Eames. It composed of several plywood that were dyed in different colors. There were 300 pieces that were produced in 1960. Another important work of art that was done by the lady is that she propagated the furniture set that was in the 1947 for the self assistance and support of the women’s den (Joan, 2011). Conclusion In conclusion, it can be clearly noted with a lot of concern that most of the arts were developed but for the designing and modification, it is the women who took part in this activity. This was because of the partnerships that were between the men and women. This enabled the women in becoming more experienced thereby executing their duties without the assistance from the males. A good example is the gift given from Carole and Ronald in the year 2000. Others were Massimo Vignelli and Lella and that of Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald who took part in the making of a series of interior decorations for the music and dining rooms.
