The film comprised of an international star cast, which included some reputed names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Caine, Ken Watanbe, Tom Berenger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dileep Rao, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and Tom Hardy. The movie is about a thief Dom Cobb played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who commands the special power to penetrate the dreams of other individuals so as to steal what he wants. The forte of Cobb lies in his ability to steal ideas from the minds of other people. The primary strategy of Dom Cobb comprised of his ability to project himself into the subconscious minds of other people to steal ideas and information, which even the most virtuoso of hackers could not pillage with all the technology and skills lying at their disposal. So, Cobb is projected in the movie as the ultimate tool specializing in corporate espionage. However, as is common with most of the capable men, Cobb has many accounted issues imbuing his past, to redeem which he is made to embark on a mission that is to become his way to redemption. However, this mission tends to be different in the sense that this Time Cobb is required to plant an idea into rather than gleaning some information from the mind of his target. Cobb and his ensemble team of espionage specialists would have certainly entered into a new dimension of psychic espionage had they succeeded. However, this time their mission is made complex and complicated by a capable adversary who not only knows what they are up to, but also possesses the power to stop them. To put it simply, in Inception, Christopher Nolan has managed to come out with a fantasy scenario, unraveling in the realm of the mind that is not only awesomely fantastic, original and innovative, but also requires multiple viewing to grasp its full potential and scope. It is a movie that exploits the existing technical expertise in the realm of cinematography to come out as being something interestingly stunning and audaciously bold. There is no denying the fact that Nolan’s primary theme in Inception is the dream world. The mastery of Nolan lies in his ability to use the cinematic devices to bring to the life the hitherto unexplored dynamics of the dream world. Not only Nolan manages to create a complicated maze meandering into the dreams of the characters in the movie, but also succeeds in soliciting the trust and confidence of his viewers in his ability to lead them through this dream world, as the viewers here are significantly prone to getting disoriented and lost. The story line is very different from that of any average movie in the sense that here, even if the viewers are told as to how the movie ends, still they are bound to being unable to grasp anything without knowing how it got there. Actually the movie revolves around ‘how it got there’ to baffle and grip the viewers. In that sense, Inception is more of a process than an outcome, a process that dissects through varied layers of the dream world, and graduates to explore dreams within dreams, trying to grasp the reality within dreams and bringing to fore the dreams without any reality. The characters in the movie are made to juggle their way through overlapping sheets of the real and the imagined. Herein lays the ultimate interest and strength of the whole movie. The good thing about the movie is that as with the characters in the movie, the viewers are as much bound to being left hanging adrift in time, space and experience. Many a times the viewers are left unsure as to the correlation existing between the real time in which they are viewing the movie and the dream time in which most of the plot unfolds. Nolan does manage to anchor this movie based on the esoteric interplay of dreams by bringing in an emotional thread in the sense that Cobb is willing to take the risk involved in the intended inception because of his deep seated guilt feelings associated with his wife Mal (Marion Cotillard) and his children. It is this mash of the emotions and the unreal that not only makes the movie believable, but also keeps the viewers anticipating till the end. One simply does not afford a smoking break in this movie as even a disengagement of a few seconds could lead to the missing of a key development. In that sense, Inception not only deserves the 148 minutes of undivided attention of the viewers, but also warrants a second visit. In fact it is much better if the viewers go to this movie, largely uninformed, as the lesser they know about it, the more they are bound to enjoy its inherent intricacy and creativity. Any affiliation to preconceived notions and expectations is somewhat bound to ruin much suspense and anticipation, which are the hallmarks of the movies of such scope and magnitude. The idea of entering the dreams is nothing new. Actually it is a possibility that had enamored the humanity since centuries. However, the forte of Nolan lies in his ability to garnish this old idea with brilliantly executed special effects, a gripping racy pace, and a storyline expanding across the globe. Hence, Inception comes out as a movie that gives something to think about rather than analyze, something one may immediately forget, yet may seep into the subconscious mindset of an unsuspecting viewer. The special effects in the movie do serve a specific purpose rather that standing out as something of an abrasion. One may simply fail to grasp or be moved by this movie, yet one simply cannot avoid admiring its originality and creative intricacy.
