Scenarios and Section # of This is a very important announcement to make, as the company seems to be almost half a century old atleast and this is the first time that somebody from an outside organization would take the place of the CEO, which is equivalent to giving the leadership of the whole company to an outsider. It would be a very big change for everybody, the staff, the managers, the Board, but since the retiring CEO has already brought many changes in the organization successfully, making the company ready for this change should not be that difficult. The timing, the day and the level of attendance will be considered by me. These are important factors because if the timings and day is bad (right when its time for the employees to leave for home or just a day before the weekend starts), people will take the news very strongly. Moreover, high attendance level is necessary so that the news reaches to as many employees as possible through me. And people do not get a chance to present this news as gossip for all those who will not be present. I will hold a company conference, where each and every employee of the company will be present. I will make sure that the replacement is present there so that he can be introduced. Then, I will start my speech talking about how much the company has achieved over the past many decades, and that this is not the end. The company has to keep on accelerating and reach new heights, for which it is important to be able to embrace new challenges, new perspectives and new people. Therefore, the company, for its own good and for the good of you all, requires new leadership, someone from an outside organization, who would bring his new ways and methods to run the company and drive it even further than the place where it is today. I will then introduce the new replacement, read out his achievements, about his past career, ask him to give a speech (which should be convincing enough as well) and end the session with a question and answer session and a farewell note for the retiring CEO. 2. This is very important news to break, as it would require major changes and quick decision making within the company of our customers. The company we are serving is a major global company, and therefore, it would need good leadership in this crisis situation to be able to survive through this. The CEO of the company needs to be informed of this situation firstly. I, along with 2 of my knowledgeable colleagues, would go and meet the CEO in person in his office, by taking an appointment for the soonest possible day. During taking the appointment, I would ask if I could get online with the CEO so that I can brief him about the urgency of the meeting and the people I want in the meeting. When I will get the CEO online, I would inform him that there has been a problem which needs to be discussed on an urgent basis and that i want to meet him personally. I would also request him to call the CFO of the company in the meeting and some of his important personnel from the Finance Department. As in the meeting, I have to convey a bad news, I will first start with a buffer statement, telling them of how great it always has been to work with them and they have always extended cooperation in this business that we’ve done together. We would then inform them of the reasons due to which the bad news occurred, that is tell them of the hurricane that came and which damaged a lot of our office and its equipments. Then, we will break the bad news in the shortest possible sentence, hoping to give them the least amount of shock. We would tell them that our call centre is not in a condition to provide them with services for an uncertain period of time. However, the data of the company is absolutely safe with us and that we are ready to compensate this loss by sending our call centre team in the company to work from the company itself till the call centre repairs. By breaking the bad news in a subtle manner and instantly providing them with an alternative, I hope to maintain good relations with the company even amidst such situations. 3. I, being the Corporate Communications Director, have a big responsibility on my shoulder, now that the media is projecting my company as involved in unethical and illegal hiring practices, which would harm the reputation of the company a great deal. The media got all the news from the union leadership. At this point in time, the first thing I would do is arrange a press conference, where all the media would be invited. It would be held as soon as possible, preferably the day after the media has done negative publicity of the company. It has to be arranged in a prestigious location, preferably a hotel, which is located in the centre of the city so that various media channels have easy access and can attend the press conference. This press conference is the only option because removing the blotch that has been inflicted upon the company’s reputation is important and this can be only undone by the media itself. The union leadership accused the company through media, and therefore, the response by the company to the union leadership has to be given through media too. In the press conference, I will present the union in a very favorable manner and will not speak negatively about the union, irrespective of what they did to the company. I will then read out the company’s fair hiring policies and that the company has always been an equal opportunity employer. I, with my speech, will convince the media that the company has always tried to abide by the laws of the Government and work ethically. I will then convey that the company is going through some changes internally, due to which all demands of the union cannot be accepted and thus, this does not mean that the company is negotiating in “bad faith”. The company will always take care of its employees and will never disappoint them if circumstances allow. 4. I would first inform the media that whatever happened is his personal life and his involvements with an undercover prostitute by no means should harm the reputation of our company or even the professional life of the CEO for that matter. I will then highlight the achievements and the positive changes that the CEO has brought to the company and brought it to a position where it has become a prominent entity of the community, helping the locales with problems regarding HR and consultancy. I will praise the CEO of the remarkable leadership with which he has pulled our company through and made it progress. I will appeal to the masses that whatever happened is his personal life and his arrest is baseless. I will tell the media that the CEO is badly needed for the company and the company would make every effort possible to get him out of police custody and to remove the harm that has been done to his reputation. I would also further say that since the company was flourishing pretty well, it could be a plan of some competitor to blotch our reputation by using such tactics, a force which could never stop us from progressing, because in such a difficult time, we would not step back and rather, we would be united and bring back our CEO from such turbulent times. When the media will report all this, it will cover up for the damage that had been inflicted on our CEO’s reputation and will help the company in gaining local support to free the CEO. References 1.
