Introduction

The images were taken during the Prestige oil spill that happened in Spanish coast. Geographical Information System (GIS) database was used in the integration of the images to study the spatial distribution, slick progression and the results compared to field observations. From the results acquired, a relationship is developed between the use of radar imagery and other available options like wind data and in situ interpretations. Integration of these techniques produces efficient ways of monitoring and forecast oil spills in the oceans. Key words Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR), oil spillage, Geographical Information System (GIS), and oil slick. Introduction Oil spillage in the sea or oceans serves as a main source of water pollution and environmental degradation. Most leakages result from ships ferrying oil to various destinations across the world. Storms in the sea cause ship wreckages that lead to oil spillage. Monitoring of such incidences before extensive damage is made is essential. The case study for this project is an oil tanker, Prestige that was damaged in a storm in the coast of Spain. Though it had a capacity of 77000 tons of heavy fuel, after the damage, there was an immediate loss of 5000 tons. ...

Breaker Failure Detection Algorithms
The second part addresses issues worth consideration when applying Breaker Failure Protection and lastly, advances towards breaker Failure Protection. Using algorithms significantly enhance the numerical BF protection. Introduction Contingency analysis remains to be one of the great tasks that face protection engineers. The reason to this is due to the fact that a Protection Engineer has to focus…
End of Oil
It can be said that the real intensive search for oil began thereafter. Corsicana came to be known as next major oil field in the state of Texas. By 1901, it became one of the largest oil producing fields in the country outside Pennsylvania. During 1922-23, the state of California came to be known as the top oil producing state in the US. The Southern California region comprised of Signal Hill,…

It is important that the mind and the body recover, through recreation, rest, and sleep, from the mental and physical fatigue resulting from the activities of the day. The comfort of a house is in the internal condition of the house. The issue, in this case, for the person to provide advice includes issues regarding the climate and the external environment. This will also involve dealing with the…
oil spills clean-up technology
Some of these techniques normally lead to other major environmental problems. This is especially the in situ burning technique that has been frequently used especially when dealing with large volumes of oil. As the oil burns, the smoke goes to the atmosphere forming clouds. This may result in oil rains, which cause other major problems to the plants, animals and buildings. Some of the methods such…
Gullfaks Oil field
Well Location and Spacing Gullfaks is a gas and oil field geographically situated in the Northern part of the Norwegian Sea since in 1987 when it started its full operation though unveiled a bit earlier in 1978 (Vassiliou, 2009, p. 475). The gap between its start of operation and invention signifies immense task involved in ascertaining whether both its recoverable as well as non-recoverable…
Condition monitoring - fault detection and diagnosis
The use of condition monitoring can be seen as a development from preventive maintenance, which itself developed from break down maintenance. Modern process requirements demand greater availability and reliability of machines which can only be provided through accurate monitoring of machine health. This allows maintenance personnel to determine the best possible course of action based on knowledge…
