The union members can create much more havoc for the organization than individual workers. They can put more pressure on Wal-Mart by threatening to strike, go-slow or not to obey the management. This will create havoc not only for the organization, but will also create inconvenience for the Wal-Mart customers.
In the quarter from May to July 2011, Wal-Mart sales were 108.64 billion dollars, with 61 percent of this coming from the United States. Wal-Mart started in 1962 as a small store in Arkansas. It has grown over the years to become the largest store in the world.
As a matter of fact, organizational culture encompasses every aspect of an organization as it is created by the people of the organization and should go beyond their identity to include reasons why the organization is worth doing business with. This means that organizational culture of a company affects a company’s success and development including revenue.
The company has some of the lowest prices in the retail industry. The culture of the firm was positively influenced by its leader. Sam empowered his employees to achieve higher performance and great customer service. Despite the company’s tremendous culture in the U.S states the managers of the company today did not realize that the American Wal-Mart culture cannot be replicated in foreign marketplaces.
The changing scenarios in the major market coupled with unstable economies and the threat of globalisation will provide a better understanding of how Tesco faces these challenges. The report herein will examine the micro and macro environmental effects, the segmentation strategies for its products, the targeting strategies and the effects of buyer behaviours on their marketing activities in different scenarios.
Due to the type of competition (from both up and down markets) that now faces Wal-Mart within the various markets that it competes within, the first section will analyze the level to which strategic groups define Wal-Mart’s market while the second part of the analysis will focus mainly upon the ways in which Wal-Mart can and should compete within the given sectors that it seeks to appeal.
It is important to understand the concept of retail marketing mix before analysing its elements. Retail mix refers to the features that are involved in the retail marketing strategy planning. The elements that retailers use in order to meet consumer needs and wants are what comprise retail mix (Dennis, Fenech & Merrilees, 2005).
