The cold war was a series of events that took place between the United States and the then Soviet Nation that lasted from 1945 to 1991 and escalated with the Cuban missile crisis where both nations were on the brink of a nuclear war (Kennan, 1972). These decades of confrontation never resulted in physical warfare, the consequences of which could have been fatal.
