Dissertation Reflection By [Presented to] of Dissertation Reflection The dissertation process was dividedinto various phases and steps and each phase was of great significance and importance. Though, I did not attend the first session but based on the interaction with my friend, I came to know that the first learning phase was based on the interaction with the supervisor and co-students on the research topic. I realised the fact that developing an idea is easy but executing it is way too difficult in terms of developing a blue print that will help in conducting the research in a logical manner. Based on the interaction with the supervisor; I realised that having an understanding over the research methods is very important in order to conduct a successful research. There is no doubt that I was lost in terms of how to conduct the research and a bit nervous in terms of understanding the intricacies of the research. However, the interaction session with the supervisor was of great help in dealing with questions and other issues. The supervisor offered feedback on the chosen research topic along with stating what is required to conduct the research. This really helped in gaining a rationale perspective over the research topic along with understanding the need and demands of the research process. There were also other students sharing their queries and majority of them seemed confused. However, interaction with them further helped in gaining confidence along with sharing wide arrays of ideas and multiple perspectives. All these helped in forming a systematic approach along with understanding the way forward for conducting the research. This session can be considered as an ice breaking session where doubts and queries were answered. The supervisor offered his support and cooperation in order to move forward in the research process along with stating further challenges in a logical manner. In a manner, it can be said that the first session was of great value and significance offering confidence and motivation to conduct the research in an enthusiasm manner. The second session was quite fruitful and interesting though I was attending it for the very first time. I was amazed to see that the research required great amount of dedication and in-depth understanding of the research topic. In the second learning session, I realised that I have to decide the evaluation method for the research. Though, I was aware on the chosen and preferred methodology but evaluation method in terms of analysing results and outcomes was not known to an extent requiring further discussion. I also realised that I have to form a systematic and more dedicated approach in order to conduct this particular research. The supervisor emphasised on using a change model that will help in analysing and evaluating the key results of the research and based on further discussion; we both agreed on using a changed model in the study. The supervisor also stated that I have to be logical and proactive in my research approach as the research included the participation of large numbers of respondents and analysing their views and opinions in the absence of a rationale strategy can affect the overall utility and significance of the research. I also realised that I have to initiate my primary research by offering educational session to parents along with telling them on their role and responsibilities as participants. Based on the interaction with my colleagues; I also gained great confidence in managing my research as majority of them were conducting their research in an enthusiasm manner and their positive guidance and talks motivated me to deliver my best in order to accomplish the purposed objectives of the research. This session was full of learning and kind of tiring as too much of sharing and understanding was devoted. However, this helped me in realising that I need to be more pro active in my approach, more dedicated, and more logical to conduct the research. I also learnt about myself that I need to have patience and positivity that was getting affected because of the expectations from others. I also learnt that a systematic and enthusiastic approach is needed to be motivated all the time. The third session was based on converting shared ideas and thoughts on paper by writing the dissertation. I had formulated my research aim, objectives, and questions in the very beginning and based on that I completed my first chapter having research introduction, research aim, objectives, questions, rationale for the research topic, scope of the research, and purposed methodology. I sent my initial writing and pamphlet to the quality department of the university to seek approval to proceed and based on the approval I further started concentrating on referring and analysing literatures to write the literature review chapter. I gained access to a number of literatures and past research papers that further helped me in writing the literature review along with ascertaining the research issue. I realised the fact that I did not design my poster and pamphlets to create awareness among parents and thus put my focus on designing that in order to get the approval from my supervisor. I also conducted the interviews and change model study with parents in the time period that further helped in collecting views and opinions. This session was very hectic and demanding as I had to write the methodology chapter along with conducting the interviews and presenting them using the change model. At the same time, it was very important to complete the draft and mail it for the feedback of the professor. Though, I managed to conduct interviews but presenting and writing them was a challenge and the supervisor helped in dealing with this issue. I realised the importance of time and stress management and learnt that time and stress needs to be managed well in order to deliver the goods in a systematic manner. Time management had been a major challenge in the entire research process as too much of work was supposed to be completed in a little and limited time period and being a novice, it was really hard to adjust to the research needs and demands. However, I was successful in dealing with all sorts of demands and successfully completed the interviews and the research draft that offered immense amount of confidence and enhanced satisfaction level. The fourth learning session was a bit intriguing and relaxing considering the fact that I completed my research and planned to submit it. I was aware of the overall expectations from my supervisor and professor and decided to complete the project as per the prescribed guidelines and requirements. Though, I was ready to submit my work; I was not sure of whether to submit it or go through it again and decided to proofread it in order to ascertain mistakes and required corrections. While proofreading the paper, I came to know that there were a number of grammatical errors and mistakes committed by me and based on that a systematic approach was formed. I sought the help of my friends and parents in identifying mistakes and errors and based on that corrections were made. I also took help of my friends and relatives in terms of requesting them to read my research paper and offer honest feedback. I received mixed feedback that made me realise that people have different perceptions and perspectives while assessing someone’s work and efforts. The major purpose of taking feedback was based on ascertaining the value and acceptance of the research and feedback did help in ascertaining that. After correcting errors and mistakes; I was feeling a lot more confident in terms of submitting my work. I was aware that I have followed all the prescribed guidelines and suggestions offered my supervisor and was confident of submitting my work. However, I also looked into the research work of my fellow students in order to analyse their contribution and efforts in order to make their research acceptable. The submission of the research study marked the end of the research for few weeks considering the fact that I have to wait for the supervisor’s feedback in order to make further changes, improvements, and corrections if required. I realised that assessment of anyone’s work is a demanding task based on the complete analysis of the efforts being put in. I also learnt that patience and openness for changes is very much crucial in order to be successful in terms of being a researcher. At the same time, it is important to be confident and rationale in accepting and offering feedback. The fifth learning session was an eye opener in many regards. I realised that even after offering full commitment and dedication; it is pretty hard to be assured on the success rate. At no point of time; one can afford to be complacent. I used to think that my research will be the best one but after collecting feedback from others and proofreading the paper; I came across a number of mistakes and errors and realised my supervisor will also come across such mistakes and errors considering his deep insights and knowledge. The overall experience had been quite fascinating and is not over yet. I learnt how to manage time and stress along with forming a systematic approach. I also learnt that, it is important to accept new ideas and challenges in order to grow and develop as an individual. The views and opinions of a number of people helped me in understanding multiple perspectives along with realising that multiple notions and perspectives are required to one specific issue or problem. Overall, it can be said that, it was a great learning experience teaching me some valuable lessons of managing personal and professional life along with respecting opinions and time. Read More
