HUM ASSIGNMT WK 8 Topic HUM ASSGNMT WK8 – Lives of Jesus and Mohammed Introduction The prophet Jesus and Mohammed are two personalities who have changed the face of world like no other person. The messenger of God called ‘Jesus’ and ‘Mohammed’ have influenced the world in such a magnificent manner, that it could be said they have written the history of world. Practically, if we look in to the lives of Jesus, he was a person born into an Israeli family, who were of Jewish religion. Jesus Christ is believed to be the son of God and has most followers throughout the world. It is his followers, who are termed as “Christians” and his religion which is called as “Christianity”. Jesus is believed to be born out of the Holy Spirit through his mother “Virgin Mary”. On the other hand, Prophet Mohammed was a person born to normal parents and had become orphan at an early age. Mohammed was born in 570 AD in Mecca of Saudi Arabia and was an illiterate throughout his life. Mohammed was born as a normal person, but was recognized later as the most powerful force behind the unity of Arabic population. According to (Carlyle)“ Today, nearly 1,400 years later, 1.8 billion Muslims revere Muhammad as the greatest of all prophets”. The Mohammed got himself knows as messenger, when he encountered with angel Michel in the Hira caves of Saudi Arabia. He then got considerably changed about his belief of God and the way he perceived the meaning of life. Comparison between Jesus and Mohammed When we look at the concise teaching of Jesus and Mohammed, we can find that there are similarities and differences to both of their perception about religion and God. Let us look at some of the similarities between Jesus and Mohammed’s principles and concept about God. Generally speaking, both Jesus and Mohammed are strong believers in God and they accepted that God is one and is the universal force which maintains the whole universe. They both accept Abraham as their ancestor and belonged to the Middle Eastern part of the world. Both of these personalities also have established the two largest religions in the world. As per (Kimkay,2012) “Jesus and Mohammed have shaped the course of history and the destiny of men and women for over two millennia.” Jesus Christ and Mohammed both are known to be gotten revelation from God and have practiced life according to the will of God. Both of these religious leaders had lived a way which is of humble and pious nature. Both these men also had to face much repercussion from people of their community and had lived a life of struggle and turmoil. Moreover, both Jesus and Mohammed were considered significantly as a divine personality. Jesus and Mohammed also taught common people that God is one and he is the only one needs to be worshipped and propagated monotheism. Differences between Jesus and Mohammed Although, Jesus and Mohammed were great prophets, they held more differences from each other than similarities. When it comes to Jesus, he claimed that he is God and Mohammed on other hand claimed himself to be a just person. Jesus was never a person who spread violence, but Mohammed uncontrollably spread his message through violence and murders. Jesus was a prophet who gave importance to women, while Mohammed suggested that women are less smart than men. Jesus has never sinned in his life, but Prophet Mohammed sinned like any other ordinary men. Moreover, Jesus was born to a Jewish family and Mohammed family was following idol worship which was something similar to Hinduism. Jesus was never known to be married, while Prophet Mohammed married many times that also girls who are invariably young to him. As per (Dickson,2009)“Jesus served God even as a small child and Mohammed worshipped idols until he was 41yrs”. It is also a fact that Jesus performed miracles and Mohammed failed to exhibit any miraculous activities. Jesus as a prophet gave value to Hebrew prophecies while Mohammed only gave out revelation and did not hold any connection with ancient scriptures. Other distinction in the life of Jesus and Mohammed was that, the former resurrected after death and Mohammed died just like an ordinary persona and remained dead forever. The principles of Jesus were grace and love, whereas Mohammed reinstate on submission to God and follow up of his revealed religious rules. The importance of Jesus and Mohammed as prophets Jesus Christ and Mohammed as messenger of God had a terrific and profound impact on the people lived during their times. Jesus as Son of God established various principles and thought s about life which he has gotten from his heavenly father, who is God himself. Jesus did not experience a death like a normal person but was resurrected after three days of his burial .This denoted his divine power and people were moved and convinced about his Godly status. After the resurrection of Christ, large number of people followed his principles and teachings and later they founded the religion “Christianity”. On the other hand, the revelation of Mohammed was written and recorded by his disciples and was followed with strict adherence by their religious community. As per (Silas,2002)“Mohammad died so suddenly that there was confusion as to would be the next ruler of the Islamic state and to this day part of that confusion remains”. Even though, both of these persons had controversial life, they were worshipped and regarded in a divine nature by the people of their locality. The group o f people who were their disciples and well wishers saw them next to God and believed and kept faith in what they told and performed. Jesus and Prophet Mohammed had many rivals in the beginning stage, but gradually due to their faith in God and ethical and virtuous principles they were admired and worshipped by people of their country. As the time moved on, they were worshipped equal to God which led to the establishment of Bible and Quran which is the ideal books written on their principles and teaching. Conclusion The religion and God has a vital role to play in the society we live in and this mostly structures the way in which we live and interact with people. The religion Christianity and Islam are the most popular religion in the world with billions of followers spread worldwide. The history of the most renowned religious leaders like Jesus Christ and Mohammed has attached with it the impeccable power of divinity. Both of these prophets are believed to have attained direct revelation from God and have proven to have led their lives according to the virtuous guidelines of God. However, these prophets share some similarities and distinction according to their religious principles and philosophies about life. Even though, they believed in monotheism, their means to attain their religious goal have been entirely different. Jesus can be said as a complete divine entity as he spread revelation of God in a more graceful and merciful manner that Prophet Mohammed. Prophet Mohammed, on the other hand, took resort of violence and killing to establish his Godly principles and ideas. Generally speaking, Jesus is a personality who is born out of Holy Spirit and has sacrificed his life for the well being and prosperity of Mankind. Comparatively, Mohammed had an ordinary birth and always put forward violence as a means to be submissive to God. These two Prophets believed ardently in God, but both have a different picture and identity in the eyes of the common people. References Carlyle, T.
