Harvard What are your three most substantial accomplishments and why do you view them as such? (600-word limit) Accomplishment Personal growthWhen physical attributes deters ones personal growth, it’s only determination that can pave the way forward towards success. My desire to be a dancer too faced such a challenge when my age was six. An abrupt but natural change in my physique made me the tallest and the odd one out in the dance team I used to practice with. I had to give up, as my height was standing out in the dance formations. My determination kept inspiring me to get across the challenge. It took only few months for me to identify a new trend in folk dance featuring a lead dancer who was taller than others. With my effective communication skills and self confidence I convinced the team’s coach on the idea and got the lead role in the new form of dance. Height turned to be a limiting factor once again, as for my passion in modeling. Though I could use my height as an advantage to be a part-time model in high school, I didn’t meet the height requirements to be a model when it came to the university level. However this couldn’t stop me from achieving my dream towards modeling, as I turned myself into a coach and a team builder. I not only successfully chased my dream but also helped others to do the same by establishing university’s first modeling association. This personal accomplishment added much to my confidence in turning the impossible to possible. Accomplishment 2-Community service Accomplishments have a better value when it serves towards ones social commitment. In February, 2008 my neighborhood in Tianjin saw agitations from small shop owners as the government had forcefully relocated them as a part of the Olympics project .Most of them had entered into long term contracts with their landlords and had spent ample money on restructuring the shop which was not compensated for. However their protest was hardly leading towards any result. In spite of joining them in the protest which lacked a direction, I decided to use my negotiation skills developed in business environments to intervene in the issue. I discussed in detail the problems of the shop keepers which were wide and vivid ranging from location to inventory. On the other side I analyzed the government’s blueprint of the new street and time schedule for reconstruction .Resultantly I developed a compensation plan which was approved by the shop keepers as well. This professional approach made room for discussion and finally the plan got approved. The accomplishment was made possible as I could successfully transfer my business skills into a social situation and this is counted as substantial because it attributed much towards my confidence to strive in changing scenarios of life. Accomplishment 3- Entrepreneurship Accomplishing the dream to establish Gravity Advisor Inc, a state of the art financial advisory firm proved me to be an efficient entrepreneur. The lessons I had learned on building a specialty merchant bank of global standards from scratch while working with China OperVestors really came handy in planning the new entrepreneurship. I could build a team of professional excellence to help our clients improve management while I raised capitals for them. The team was experienced in strategy, technology, finance, and law, which enhanced the firm’s value for clients. This achievement made substantial contribution towards my professional development especially as an entrepreneur as this gave me the confidence to think big, act big, and achieve big. I could prove myself efficient in accomplishing historic milestones as I successfully sourced strategic investment of business giants like British Petroleum and Intel for my Chinese clients. 3. What area of the world are you most curious about and why? (400-word limit) The most advanced finance strategy, state of the art technology and global class management practices made me curious about America. This inquisitiveness prompted me to explore the unlimited source of business learning which was possible in America-the sweet land of liberty. The resources in terms of managerial training, which this dream land of mine could deliver towards developing my local Chinese company to global standards was enormous. This insight inspired me to take professional managerial training from the Harvard School of Management in the United States of America. Though my colleagues were worried of losing my inspiring leadership, I was sure to compensate this loss in multiples as I would come back as a trained managerial expert. Harvard could connect me to key energy companies located primarily in America or Europe through my classmates, alumni, and its faculty. Moreover I expected myself be an ambassador of Chinese business in America. The scope in connecting our small firm in China with Harvard’s resources as well as American opportunities while sharing the experiences and opportunities in China with my Harvard peers could be well envisaged. I was confident that the American exposure, well coordinated by the elite managerial training of Harvard would help me and my company soar heights which could never be achieved with the narrow local business concepts. America would be a new platform to build a larger network and future for me, my partners, my employees and my clients. I would get a first hand knowledge of American venture capitals and would have the chance to participate in various business plan competitions. My experience in authoring business plans for my clients could also be shared which in turn could add to my credentials as an effective strategy builder and would aid the network building process. America is known globally for its acceptance for cultures and people from round the globe. Being in an American business environment would expose me to a single window opening towards the differentiated needs of the global economy and business. The demands and peculiarities of region specific business investors would be a real good matter of research and would help me cater in accordance. My inquisitiveness towards the business learning and networking opportunities in America would help me strive for the resources favoring the replication of such business standards in my country resulting in me making a remarkable contribution towards Chinese business and related economy. 4. What is your career vision and why is this choice meaningful to you? It was my long term career goal to turn Gravity Advisor Inc into a world class financial advisory firm which aimed capital investment in socially responsible industries like renewable energy and agriculture technologies. Gravity was co-founded by me as a firm helping its clients to bring in more strategic investment into their ventures. So as to establish a solid base for my vision, I set my short-term career goal to lead the transformation of the deliverables of my current financial advisory firm from mere ‘consultancy’ to ‘advisory and investment services’ by establishing our own venture fund. Towards this cause I intended to develop a strong research team with solid industrial knowledge and hands-on experiences, to evaluate the prospects and openings for investing in traditional industries like renewable energy and agriculture. My remarkable records in delivering consultancies ensured me of the scope of my career goal, as my industrial history would enable me to convince investor communities and thus attract direct investments for promising start-up companies and talented entrepreneurs. Moreover my strong and confident campaigns would persuade the potential investors to concentrate more on socially sustainable industries like renewable energy and agriculture. I could also help the investor develop and strengthen governmental relationships by assurance of proper communication on social value of the investment to policy makers and public community. The aimed career becomes of much meaning to me as these kinds of investments would help China to keep pace with the sustainable growth requirements and to narrow the gaps between countryside and cities resultantly causing a balance in the economy distribution. Moreover this would automatically contribute positively towards environmental and other social issues. Investments in ethical and sustainable energy efficient projects and other environmental friendly concepts would add more to the common needs of the industry and society by mutually helping and benefiting the cause. My vision on Gravity makes more sense ethically too as I could serve my social responsibilities towards my motherland and its people through the organization. It would be the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company to support and build projects like Gravity Hope Schools which would ensure education to children from poor families.
