Advanced Professional Development Introduction Professional development for me will be very important because I understand that it will help me in getting the correct aptitude that will enable me to develop my profession. I also understand that it will enhance my learning. I have worked hard to achieve professional skills which I hope will be further developed by professional development so that I can enhance my job output, organization efficiency and my general success. Finally through professional development, I will be able to enhance the quality of my professional vocational skills and also attain efficiency. Personal SWOT Analysis Strengths: Am able to multitask Very good in leadership skills; good in time management and task prioritization Have good interpersonal skills and I am articulate Fluent communication skills both written and spoken and able to deliver effective presentations (Hansen & Hansen 2009) Strategic thinker and there able to solve problems and make decisions fast Weaknesses: Time pressure can result in stressful situations and emotional hijacking Multitasking or handling several tasks can lead to competing priorities Some I'm impatient, I am unable to put up with people who do not comprehend fast (Hansen & Hansen 2009) Compulsiveness at times may cause me to resent being assigned duties where I get to think unkind of the people giving tasks or situation presenting the task Strong zeal to get things on my priority list done and getting them done correctly could result in lack of cautious deliberation (Hansen & Hansen 2009) Opportunities: To involve others by allowing them to offer response of their perception and experience of my role or my presence at the organization To receive even more vocational training or coaching especially in the areas of improvement of my leadership skills. To seek opportunities to learn from other leaders who are in similar roles or positions or situations like mine(Hansen & Hansen 2009) To improve my capacity to manage completion of tasks hastily in order to be able to allow more careful deliberation before a task is set to begin To improve my level-headedness concerning work related duties Threats: Time pressure can at times derail the plans that are already running and my effort for improvement by propelling me back to old habits (Hansen & Hansen 2009) Massive amount of day to day duties may work against self-reflection Management Competence Growth and development of any organization including even the non profit making organizations is a major indication of success (Tate 2005). For these reasons, I intend to enlarge the scope of my job responsibility at the company and build up a dependable and determined professional management team to profitably incorporate objectives of the company and concentrate my efforts to accomplish the mission of the company which is to improve the experience of employees and thus gain economic and political bargaining power to realize a truly successful organization. Corruption has been a serious problem in this business hence affecting the growth of the company and the whole economic development plan of the country. Corruption is the mother of failure in any business venture and being a purpose driven individual, I hope to weed out this vice from the businesses. Considering my professional skills like counselling/mentoring, coaching skills and leadership skills, I hope to successfully complete professional development; after which, I will be an expert as I will have acquired more skills combined with my personal skills like setting objectives, acting assertively thinking strategically, effective delegation and decision making. Compromising corruption not only spoils the reputation of the business but rather denies the involved parties their revenue; it has also been described as an unfair trade (Tate 2005). Any business that is associated with corruption will definitely loose the customer's confidence and the customer's loyalty. I have developed necessary skills and experience enough to venture into the larger economy and managerial positions like office manager and business manager. This position blends well with knowledge in managerial skills which I will acquire from undertaking an MBA degree. Having the ISTJ personality (Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging), I have the right combination of skills and personal attributes to pursue MBA and live my dream of establishing and being the Chief Executive Officer for a Leading Multinational corporation in the world. My sensing ability has enabled me to be able to spend more time with maximum concentration in office because working with financial data requires maximum attention so as to manage all the details with accuracy of the highest order (Tate 2005). There are also many deadlines to be met which can cause one some stress; this requires an organized person who can prearrange every event and be able to meet the deadlines as required. Having these professional skills and personal skills, I will be able to venture in careers that are demanding e.g. a tax agent and be able to deal with various people with various issues (Tate 2005). Being equipped with the relevant skills in leadership, I will be able to exploit the opportunities in the corporate world e.g. venturing in international business enterprise. This strategy off course has to go hand in hand with my objective of reducing corruption if not totally eradicating the vice. This is a critical step towards realizing a corruption free trade. In order to increase the company' revenue, I will be in a better position than before to negotiate purchasing contracts and executing other duties of insurance and ensuring compliance with accounts receivable policies(Derven 2008). Globalization is on the rise and our firm will not be an exception to the effects of the global economic changes and crises. Changes in the global economy such as the economic downturn and lack of expansion strategies have limited the growth and expansion of the business (Derven 2008). Doing a masters degree in business administration will enable me to come up with a creative and innovative expansion plan that encompasses the economic policies effective in the changing global economy as well as being able to establish and continually improve goals for the company according to the strategic plan. As my personality test revealed that am an ISTJ, characterized by traits like trustworthiness, dependability, and civil responsibility, I intend to blend these traits with my skills in book keeping, administration, analytical thinking, decision making and organizational skills to widen future opportunities. Being a responsible and honest person, I will be able to exercise the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with financial documents and people information in any position I may hold in the future e.g. accountant or business manager (Derven 2008). Importance of Feedback from Others Feed back is one way of allowing an organization to find out its weaknesses and improve on them, discover strengths and capitalize on them and also find opportunities to exploit. In the absence of feedback, it's likely that an organization can assume itself to be doing fine yet the perception could be out of the bias of imperfect human elements (Morecroft 2007). The world of business has grown to become so dynamic that it's no longer enough to obtain a degree in business administration and use it as a tool for management. It's no longer enough to carry out a market research once and use the same results for every situation as the market and circumstances keep on changing. For this reason, I realize that there is need to keep growing in accordance with the changing market place. Insipid corporate responsibilities that give no insights into our company are a thing of the past. To remain competent, the company needs to adopt and improve skills of disbursing and obtaining real, honest feedback that will ensure good results (Morecroft 2007). I believe feedback will offer me an opportunity for success. As a leader, seeing the organization thrive because of employees' honest ideas will make me feel good. Consequently, this will build loyalty in the employees and then the overall benefit will be increased output. Feedback also enables managing ups and downs. Without the mechanism to offer and receive valuable feedback to assist individuals in the company, ups in the company could change into a downward trend that could be tragic for business. If am able to manage and lead by quality feedback, then the company can often bounce back from the downs, market changes and adjust its corporate strategy in good time. Since resource management is critical, as a business I would like to see it maximize the resources available. Improved feedback capability will definitely lighten the overhead and reduce time required to get a project done (Morecroft 2007). Produce quality can be improved as well as customer service. This means there will be good quality low production cost hence greater profits. Learning and Development Needs This process involves looking at what is available in the organization in terms of skills, knowledge, attitude and competency. This is done by identifying the tasks to be performed now and in future. Then employees are evaluated from capabilities of doing the job. The gaps that exist are noted down after aligning skills against tasks and so on. Relevant skills to fill in the gaps are then identified so that the human resource can have the time to determine whether new people will be recruited or training will be done (Morecroft 2007). For future employees, its best when they are qualified. Personally, pursuing a degree in an MBA program will mean that I will be equipped with the necessary general management and strategy skills to both expand the scope of business and increase the profitability of the company (Bee & Bee 2003). Learning Style I have assessed myself and sought counsel from a professional psychiatrist who has confirmed that am an auditory and kinaesthetic learner. This means I am good at listening and also at taking part in practical activities making me to learn well by experience. Auditory learners: these are students who have good listening skills and learn best when they hear things. Such kinds of students can have a tough time trying to understand a passage they are reading but can clearly understand when they listen to a passage being read. Such students can grasp a lot of information during a lecture in the class. An auditory learner can benefit a great deal when using computers that are equipped with speech recognition tools. Such students may have the capacity to ascertain whether a person is giving the true meaning when they listen to him/her speaking especially concentrating on the tone of the voice (Vincent & Ross 2002). When memorizing a phone number, an auditory learner can in most cases repeat it out loud so that he/she gets the sound and then be able to remember it just the way it sounded. Such students learn best when they provided with oral instructions for taking assignments. Students can be provided with videos to complement the written content. The student can then be allowed more time to read aloud the content or discuss through the instructions or questions they may be having. Breaks should be there for silent reading and also recognition that the students with strong auditory learning style take longer in reading a passage must also be there (Vincent & Ross 2002). Characteristics of such students are: reading slowly, enjoys music, recalls names, reads loudly, sensitive to sound effects, good in grammar and languages and not afraid to speak. Recorded lectures can be very favourable, they can absorb a lot from watching movies, and they participate well in discussion groups, can tape notes and use audio tapes and CDs more efficiently than the written notes (Vincent & Ross 2002). They can perform well in oral examinations. Kinaesthetic Learners: these types of students classically learn best by doing things physically. Such students are very good in physical activities like dances and other sporting activities. They take pleasure in learning via hands on experiences. They characteristically like how-to guides and adventurous narrations (Vincent & Ross 2002). They can pace while talking on the phone or take breaks during a study lesson to stretch and move about to refresh. Some kinaesthetic learners appear to be fidgety and find it very hard to sit for long hours in a class. The kinaesthetic learners gain knowledge best by doing things; this means that they enjoy manipulation of items, simulation, playing roles and other means that are physically involving during the process of learning. Experimenting gives them pleasure and first hand experience is their best method of learning because they can easily retain information they obtain this way (Vincent & Ross 2002). Using varied activities also gives them great opportunities to learn. Conclusion As a business leader, I will create a vision and describe a dream for the organization in a way that employees will want to follow. To be a Leader especially in the commercial business world, I have to develop a great amount of emotional intelligence. The intelligent quotient and technical aspects are critical for leaders. In addition, they also need to have other traits that will make them stand out from the rest. With this regard, I intent to perfect my personal skills of strategic thinking, problem solving and decision making References Bee F & Bee R (2003).
