Rail transport is increasingly becoming important in each and every passing day. The reason being that it eases the congestion in major towns and cities. Due to the ever increasing population, urbanization and demand for transport of goods and services, the demand for rail transport is on the increase…

Introduction

The design issue under consideration includes route surveying, track component identification, designing the rail curve and other design aspects that help in improving rail transport. Suggestion indicated can be implemented by any train organization seeking to improve or optimize there services (Mundrey, 1993).
Rail tracks are used for the guidance of trains, and consist of two steel rails laid in parallel. The rails guide the train in motion without the need for steering. The rails are laid on sleepers. The sleeper are also referred to as the cross ties. The sleepers are embedded in the ballast and form the rail road track. The rails are fastened to the sleeper by the use of spikes, lag screws, bolts clips and pandrol clips. The type of fastening sleepers depends on the type of sleepers. For the concrete sleepers clips are used, for the wooden sleepers' spikes are used and for steel sleepers, bolts are commonly used.
Convectional rail design involved route surveying and finding the most economical route for the rail line. The engineer worked on ways of designing the rail so as to surpass the geographical obstacles (Engineering Policy Group (EPG). 2009).
Currently rail design encompasses many design aspects. These design aspect results from the need for greater speeds and heavy loads. ...

This will allow calculations of the response to any input(rainfall). Hydrographs are often affected by factors of soil saturation and the surroundings. The vegetation type and the steepness of the surrounding lands, with the drainage density. Very dry weather, normally creates a crust on river beds and wet winters would increase the discharge. Rail Track Design
It is aimed to improve the line speed over this route. Thus it is especially beneficial to identify and elaborate the key track design issues required in the redesign process. These design issues include route surveying, track components identification, curve track requirements and other factors beneficial for the railroad redesign development.…
Track Design for Line Speed Improvement
In the US, many cities are investing in light rail to ease congestion, address climate change, and improve transportation efficiencies. In Europe, the same scenario is starting to unfold with a focus on light and heavy rail driven by the need for efficient transport links says Martin Baggot.…
Track design for linespeed improvements Master Essay
There are also several stations , tunnels and a number of bridges that are present. The line has a power supply for traction trough an overhead line electrification system. The new traffic flow also requires traffic with a heavier axle weight to run that would increase from 20 tonnes to 25 tonnes. With the new traffic flow, tilting trains as well as conventional passenger stopping train will be…
Track design for linespeed improvements
This is to facilitate the construction of a turnout on a section that is straight. The construction of the curve is to allow access for freight traffic converge into a new intermodal freight depot and access of the main lines will be required at a minimum speed of 50 kilometres per hour and 50 trains will be expected to use the railroad track everyday. A track handbook must be discussed with the…
