In the first part of the book, the story revolves around Pacman-looking circle, searching for the lost pizza-like piece which completes its being. There is no indication whether Pacman-looking circle is a male or female. Pacman-looking circle looks for the missing pizza-like piece everywhere, asking people it meets along the way if they have seen the missing piece or if they can give directions leading to where the missing piece is. It looks everyone and does not give up with the search since it has high hopes that it was going to find the missing piece. In his search, it sings a melancholic song which it hums to show how sad it was for not finding its missing piece. The song, “Oh, I am looking for my missing piece; I am looking for my missing piece…” (Silverstein, 1976) makes readers feel the pain the Pacman-looking circle has. Children's Literature Chapter 11 When a teacher teaches literacy and content together, the teacher expands the chances of the student to learn both content and literacy. This is true because it moves the students from what they know to what they do not know, and from what is easy to what is hard (Deborah & Bernice, 2009).
The first book of fairy tales got published in 1550 in Italy and a decade later another collection of fairy tales appeared in France. In England many of the stories were rewritten in easier language for children. These stories never faded over time and now children are being told these stories via films by Walt Disney rather than by their parents (Montgomery, H., ed, 2009).
Artwork is one factor that clearly separates children’s literature from adults’ as children’s books have always consisted of colorful pictures which are meant to illustrate the story in a mesmerizing manner so as to captivate the young readers. All adult books in contrast are mostly devoid of any illustrative images focusing more on intricate words meant to convey deep meaning.
When it comes to the subject matter, there is a great deal of difference in the choice of theme and the purpose of the writings of both eras but the deep investigation makes us realize that today’s children literature has its roots in the nineteenth century literature.
One of the best examples of this is the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling where traditional British themes are produced as desirable and modernity of the human world is rejected as immaterial. The transformation of children’s literature into film is not a new idea.
Text is not even something that can be expected because there have been books created for children with no text. However, it could be said that there is very often an overt or hidden agenda in a piece of writing intended for children. The number of meanings that have been created for the writing that is done for children is wide and has the scope of all meanings in the universe as writers have approached subjects as varied as imagination to the concept of death.
