Health is the factor that affects every part of an individual's life. Good health leads to a prosperous life. The concept of health is known to everyone but the meaning that individuals derive from this term varies from person to person and group to group. The concept of health for children differs from that of teenagers.

The situation is further intensified as each individual is unique and may have attributes that do not conform to the societal norm. Many individuals who have a mental illness or disability find it difficult to find love and acceptance from others. Many people grow up under the teachings of equality, but this aspiration is far from reality.  

Given the likelihood that many Black Americans feel that it is useless for them to try and excel since they are expected to fail; would not many of them also want to opt-out?  These stages are roughly divided by age groups but refer more to the types of growth patterns that are experienced rather than specific ages.  Erikson labels these stages infancy, toddler years, early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood.
